great reference....one questionable drawback
Ok so this book is a great reference for oils if you are new to them or even if you want to go into more detail about the oils you've been using forever. Let me explain...This book includes titles in order:Introduction to EO'sA Brief History of EO'sEO ConstituentsEO Application Methods: TopicalAuricular Internal Body Points (Very interesting section)Reflex Therapy Hand chartReflex Therapy Feet chartsAromaTouch TechniqueAutonomic Nervous SystemEO Application Methods: AromaticNose and Olfactory SystemThe art of BlendingEO Application Methods: InternalDaily TIps for An Essential LIfestyleEO Cooking tipsSleeping/Relaxing and Waking Up/EnergizingBath and Shower TipsPersonal Care and WellbeingKitchen and Bathroom cleaning & DisinfectingOther Daily Household tipsSingle EO's (below i'll list all the parts of this section)EO BlendsEO Inspired Wellness SupplementsEssential Living and Spa ProductsPersonal Usage Guide (I'll explain this below as well)Appendix A: Body Systems ChartAppendix B: Single EO's Property ChartAppendix C: Taxonomical InformationResearch ReferencesIndexEO & Blends quick usage chartThe sections cover everything I could want to know about Essential Oils, including some recipes for food, tips for office/school, cleaning, sleeping, shower/bath, and much more. There is simply too much information to list all of it here. I will say it seems pretty thorough to me.Now in the sections list above I mentioned I would describe the type of information given on the single/blends. On each oil, it lists:the name of the oil the scientific namehow it can be used (either Topically, Aromatically, or Internally)the botanical familyextraction methodchemical constituentspropertiescommon primary uses and how to apply (topically, aromatically, or internally)historical usesfrench medicinal usesother possible usesbody systems affectedaromatic influenceapplicationoral use as dietary supplementsafety datablend classificationsblends with: (other types of oils)odor typeon the blends it lists:Name of blendtype of blendhow it can be applied (topically, aromatically, or internally)each EO that is in the blend along with a small description of eachcommon primary uses along with how it can be appliedbody systems affectedaromatic influenceapplicationsafety dataNow the personal usage guide section lists an ailment, for example acne or ADD/ADHD, etc.a description of the ailmentoils or blends that will help with ailmentwhat to blend and how to apply(the index also helps with finding the ailments listed anywhere in the book)Ok so it is a very detailed book with a bunch of information. So far I've given no bad information on the book. However I thought I was purchasing an independent book that wasn't connected to a huge EO company. While reading it, you see the TM letters next to many of the blends listed in the book. I thought I was getting a complete guide on EOs but it seems its only for the doterra company's oils. Now i'm not a EO guru or anything so maybe someone that is can comment on this and let me know if they sell every oil possible. If they do then it isn't as big of a con, however the book is made to where visually you can't tell it is affiliated/written by doterra. The only indicator is the TM signs listed on all the blends, names of shower and personal products they sell etc. This may or may not be a drawback to some people, however I prefer knowing what i'm buying before i buy it. I'm questioning more the fact that they don't have doterra stamped all over it, i suppose. I guess even if they don't have every oil listed in the book (how many EOs are there??) then it is still a very informational book about the oils that they do sell.Overall I am glad I purchased the book, I just would have preferred it be listed somewhere (like the cover) that it is written by doterra so I can decide if the information is/could be swayed in anyway. There really isn't a way for me to know since I'm not an EO pro but I will use the book as a reference.Hope this helps everyone.

My Modern Essentials Bible for using essential oils.....
All the editions have information that other editions do not have, so I recommend those using essential oils to buy ALL the editions. I have 4th and 5th editions of this book. Although the 5th edition has more information and newer products, it also leaves out some pertinent information from prior editions that may be useful for users of essential oils. There is a vast amount of information these books offer, from scientific compounds of the oils, anatomy and photos of where to apply, and most of all, the safe use,of essential oils, which is the most important thing to know for anyone using oils. These books are the BEST way you can properly diagnose your problems and find the essential oils that work best for your problem(s). It is impossible to know which oils to use otherwise. Many research via browsers and websites, but I choose to use use Modern Essentials book in learning the safest application of my doTERRA therapeutic grade essential oils. Although, doTERRA did not write this book, the instructions and scientific and medical insight this book offers helps users to have knowledge of the why's, do's and don't's of essential oils. Also, it works hand in hand with my essential oils. Without these books, I do not believe I would be able to safely and effectively use my essential oils. Also, I like handbooks and manuals, and I like to read, as with many others in my age bracket, as well. I prefer books rather than learning about essential oils from websites, although many others prefer the use of computers to books. It is whatever their preference is. It is the same as looking in cookbooks for recipes rather than online. Most young people don't even have cookbooks anymore. I can't live without mine.In my opinion, Modern Essentials is my alternate pharma (non-drug) Bible. Now, there is a 6th and possible 7th coming, to which I can't wait to stock up on. Just like I can't live without essential oils, I can't live without this book!

excellent and useful
My wife bought this and loves it. She refers to it often since we use essential oils in our family as a complimentary or alternative treatment to ailments and chronic conditions. This book is made to use with doTerra oils, though I think it could easily be used with other oils as well. The book itself tells you what oils are in all the blends so it would be easy to replicate them. Which is one reason we bought the book, if we have the single oils we can blend them ourselves. There is a lot of educational information in this book, as well as profiles of all the oils and blends, reflex point charts, recipes, household use tips, detailed massage technique, usage chart organized by ailment, quick usage chart and more. We are very happy with our purchase. We bought this used and it was in great condition.

Very insightful book, especially for DoTERRA Reps
As a new doTERRA consultant, this is a highly recommended "textbook" and it truly is that. It reads like a science book (not something you just sit and read cover to cover unless you're an avid science text reader). Information is super helpful and very beneficial for those new to essential oils, especially doTERRA products. Thanks for a great book! Product was received in a timely manner and fairly well packaged, but my book corners were a little dinged in shipping, which is why I did not give a 5.

A must for anyone who wants to use exxential oils
This book is very organized, and informative. It is very easy to use for the the new person to essential oil therapeutic usage, as well as the more seasoned user. If you have an ailment you would like to deal with using the oils, you can look in the index and and find the page (s) and go to the page and read up. You can also do the same with the specific oil you would like to use. There are sections on the science and chemistry of the the oils, why they work, how they they work and how to use them. The writing of the book was overseen by a doctor. I highly recommend this book to everyone serious about using essential oils.
