This does help slim you down and keep your "gut" "sucked in". However I found myself itching to take it off because it's nearly impossible to sit down in comfortably. I got it for a wedding, so I opted to not wear it for the actual wedding. If you're only planning to stand, then this is a good product. I imagine it might be good under a Renaissance festival dress too. Otherwise- skip it.

I'm 5'2", 150lbs and typically wear a size 6 in dresses. I ordered a medium based on Amazon recommendation. I probably could have gone with a small, but the medium worked and was comfortable wearing all day for 9 hours at work. I've tried other brands that buckled out in the lower belly area and this did not. Happy with this purchase! I only gave 4 stars instead of 5 because it would be great if there was a 2nd row of hooks to give an in-between size option.
