No not plastic but it's metal mesh covered one is really good. You can use for toilet cistern too

I think all geysers (storage type geysers) will have the same size (diameter of the pipe) inlet and outlet. so this product will be compatible. this pipe length is 18", so the important point is how much is the distance between your pipeline point and the place where you are fixing the geyser it was short in length in our case so had to return.
