Instant Read Meat Thermometer, Waterproof Ultra Fast Digital Food Cooking Thermometer with Collapsible Long Probe, Backlight & Calibration for Kitchen BBQ Grill Smoker

Ordered for the usual reasons. I've had a variety of meat thermometers, but this one really is easy to read and I really like the very slim probe design. Just in the last week, I have been able to more accurately get temps over my supermarket dial face meat thermometer specials. Why keep buying, and losing, those, when I can have this one? Only caveat is that we'll have to see how well it holds up to grilling season. So far, so good.

The first unit I received was defective; worked two or three times, then quit. I've had the new replacement for three months now, use it about once a week, and it's still working fine. The internal magnet is kind of cool, you can stick it onto the side of a BBQ shelf or anywhere that is not a hot spot on the grill and it stays there; holds it's own weight just fine. The backlight is nice when cooking up until dusk and it's plenty bright. It has an integrated bottle opener on the hole used to hang it, but I won't be using it for a bottle opener. I think that would put too much stress on the body of the thermometer or maybe bend the internal circuit board. It uses a single standard CR2032 battery.

Don't know how I managed to grill filet's, shrimp, sausages... before. Having this meat thermometer has changed my culinary life. It's accurate. It's easy to use. All my grilled food is checked now and everyone, including me, is amazed. Guess that tells you how ineffective my grilling technique was before. I took a tour of a grill chef's kitchen and found that the experts would not be caught dead without their thermometers. If the pros use it, why the heck shouldn't I? I researched a number of thermometers and this is what I chose. Very happy! Priced right. Easy to use. Comes with internal light to read the temp in the dark easily. In F or C. It has temp guides on the the side so you know what temp correlates to med, med rare.... Dropped it a couple times on concrete by accident. Still working. It is now 6 mos since I bought it. Used many many times. Not sure how long the battery lasts, but so far, it is going strong. If you're looking for a better way to grill...buy this.

Does what's advertised, surprisingly well considering the price. Near instant readings for meat and baked goods. I get a significantly slower run-up to 'final' readings for oil, and am not sure whether that's a matter of the oil continuing to heat, or the thermometer needing extra time to catch up to extreme higher temps--but it feels suspiciously like the latter.After 18 months of daily use, the probe began wanting to separate from the hinged part that holds it. At 20 months, that part shattered and the probe now hangs from its wires. Still usable, but with some danger of burning myself, so this one will be saved as a backup.I'm still happy enough with my original purchase to order a second one today, even though the price has jumped by a third. But hey, $15? It's easy enough to imagine an $80 - $100 model beating it to a reading by a second or two (not the 20 or 30 seconds of my old pocket 'instant read' thermometers), but I don't know if I'd bank on it lasting six times as long.

I love this thermometer. I had been using an analog one for years and it was so slow. This one is SUPER FAST! I keep it on the side of my over-range microwave with the magnetic base. I use it every day when cooking meals. I used to check only the thickest piece of meat, but now I just check them all in less time than the analog. It cleans easily and turning on and off by opening and closing makes it really convenient.

Pros:I bought one for myself and 3 others as gifts.Here's what happens when you give this as a gift: Whoever you bought it for gives you a very tepid, "Oh cool... thanks." Then, about a month later, they'll tell you, "You know, that thermometer you got me is awesome! I use it for everything! My chicken comes out so much better now, and I can cook my steaks perfect medium rare every time. I can't believe what a difference it makes! I love that thing."Look. It's not a very sexy or exciting product or gift, but in terms of cost vs. utility, it's literally one of my favorite items that I've purchased in recent years. One of the best tools in my kitchen. As far as I can tell these are sold under a lot of different brand names, I doubt there's much of a difference between them so find one for a low price.Cons:The magnet on the back is weak.The point is VERY sharp, which is great for probing meat, but it should be handled with care and kept out of reach of children.

Perfect instant thermometer. I have a thermometer to use while food is cooking but I wanted one to read temperatures instantly while grilling and for when I forgot the other one or when I’m broiling and can’t use it. This thermometer is ready to use out of the box and is easy to use as well. The numbers are large to see. It turns off when you close it and on when it opens. I highly recommend it!

There are many different pocket sized thermometers available, but I picked this one due to the large, easily readable display, and the speed of getting an accurate reading. I used this a lot while preparing our holiday dinner, and was very impressed with the ease of use. This thermometer gets a reading faster than others I have used.
