Tiling Complete: Expert Advice From Start to Finish

I purchased book to help my get through my first tiling job. I don't know that I could have done it with out this book. That doesn't mean that other books would not have been as helpful, this just happen to be the one I bought. Easy to read, stays away from industrial jargon and keeps it to the 'layman's level.' I read through the book twice before I ever touched a tool or purchased the tile and I am glad I did. There are a lot great tips and suggestions that helped to direct my money and prevented repeated trips to the hardware store (which I'm notorious for if you ask my wife). I would recommend this book for anyone setting up for their first tiling job. Since I have done my initial small bathroom, I installed tile in two other rooms of my house and they all look great and professional.

The book is great for beginners like myself. It has great illustrations and really good information on tile in general. I believe that I can get off to a good start with ths book. At times, it is inadequate because it does not give enough information on specific tasks one might encounter while setting tile on a floor. For example, the book was vague when it discussed the toilet flange and how to start the floor layout was a bit confusing. I will have to buy an additional book or DVD to supplement this one. However, it was a good purchase and I will add it to my library.

This book does a good job of going through the necessary steps for the DIY'er to complete a tile job from start to finish. It provides some great tips that will make your life easier. However, the book lacks detail on some pretty basic issues. For example, the section on substrate offers no discussion on the different types available and the advantages or disadvantages of each. More glaring is the lack of information on how to properly attach them to the sub-floor. It's important to me to know that I can use a coil-nailer to attach hardibacker but wonderboard must be screwed down. This same lack of complete discussion of important details is apparent throughout the book. It's a good book but you may find that you need another one to fill in some of the blanks.

This book came in handy when we were installed our tile backsplash in our new kitchen. The only thing it is really missing is information for installing tile using a membrane rather than thinset or mortar. It did give us some good tips though that helped with our project. Probably more information than we really needed since our project was just a kitchen backsplash.

Tiling is skilled art. The design of wall, floor, or counter is imaginative. Some ideas lead to attractive success, while certain approaches can turn out too complex or intricate to achieve. Learning fundamentals of tile structures and how tile is installed is directive in keeping tile art simple. Especially for novice, the book instructions will temper choice of tile types and layouts for a better chance of a timely, clean finish.

This book delivers exactly what it claims. It covers all the aspects of tiling that someone who needs to buy a book about it would want to know. I bought it as a refresher before a new project, not having tiled in quite a few years, and I even picked up a few great tips that I didn't know before. I would recommend this book.

Nice summary of tiling. Not a how-to-tile book.

I was excited when I first say this book listed. I just completed a tiling jod I did on my own and only if i had this book I might have done a better job. I has great ideas that easy to follow and understanding. My remaining tiling projects will most definately be perfect as this book helped me to perfect my existing skills and add new inovating ideas which I will be employing very soon.
