Blind Fury

And this is why the 80s were great for cinema
Short, sweet, fun and action-packed, 'Blind Fury' is a hoot in the kind of way that seemed to infuse so many 80s films. The late, great Rutger Hauer takes the lead role as Nick Parker, master swordsman who just so happens to be blind and journeys across America to unite a son with his kidnapped father. This brings him into contact with an array of great 80s heavies like Randall 'Tex' Cobb, Nick Cassavettes and, saved for the finale, Sho Kosugi. The more literate of film lovers will know that this is an adaptation of the classic Zatoichi series and director Philip Noyce gives a few really nice nods to the series; seeing the hero in a casino and uncovering a corrupt croupier is a nice homage to one of the great Zatoichi tropes. It loses a point for being a bit too short - it could have done with another ten to fifteen minutes of character interaction. That said, in a world where Hollywood blockbusters are now two-and-a-half bloated hours of excess and ill discipline, brevity makes quite a nice change.

4stars means I like it and want to watch it again and later again.
I could have given it 5stars, but thats not correct against the very best movies made. Action, drama and comedy mixed in a simple plot and a little bit improbable story. Its a B-movie were most actors (especially the bandits) seems to be far from smart (really, often it needs a clever actor to look foolish). So what makes this movie so good? I will try to explaine, although its a simple movie it got all the ingredients needed to keep you attended. First its a simple and real story about good guys and bad guys were the good guys wins in the end, as it should be. Included is of course a moral. Besides Rutger delivers a marvellous acting where he is performing tough guy and a funny guy as well as showing he is a sensitive guy. I rate this movie as a must for men (not so shure about women) from 14- old.

BLURAY / MEDIUMRARE ENTEERTAINMENT
This is a very solid HD transfer from Mediumrare and probably the best this fun little movie has ever looked, the image is sharp with colours and skintones all looking wonderful, the disc states that the audio is 5.1 surround but in fact it is only digital stereo however it works with good separation coming from left to right and vise versa, the bluray disc case cover is all fun and Rutger Hauer gives a great performance as the blind bruce lee with a sword, would very much like to see another one of his great performances in "Wanted Dead r Alive" given the bluray treatment so hopefully wont be waiting to long for this to emerge also,Philip Noyce always delivers great movies and this being one of his earlier works,he does not disappoint...a great little movie with great action and a real Rutger Hauer classic

Deserves a sequel.
Made in 1989 it’s a cheesy funny martial arts movie just like no retreat no surrender not meant to be taken seriously but it’s real pop corn entertainment I mean he’s blind but wears a digital watch it’s just fun. And Rutger Hauer plays it for laughs. Love to see a sequel.

Blind action hero
A great blast from the past, blinded during vietnam war our hero goes in search of the buddy who left him to die during the attack. Drug kingpin wants to use his mates family to force him to make drugs but the badf guys are stopped by Rutger. Then starts a journey with mates young son to Vegas with numerous attacks from the bad guys and numerous comedy encounters along the way. I am happy to recommend this film.

One of Rutgers best movies
One of Rutgers best movies. Full of 80s cliches and style, utterly dated, yet fabulous. If your are a fan of the mans work, do yourself a favour and pick this up.The blu-ray remastering gives a lovely clean picture.
