Designed for use with our ultralight alcohol stoves, the Aluminum Windscreen has top and bottom cut-outs for proper ventilation and flame management. For DIY alcohol stove makers the windscreen can also serve as a light load pot support.

Nice Design and Build
Purchased this for my Trangia Spirit stove in the hopes it would serve double duty as both a windscreen and pot stand for my Snow Peak Titanium Mini Solo Combo 3.8" mug and pan. Its 5 leaf design works well, being 5" wide as a hexagon, but when closed up as small as possible - a 3.25" square - the Snow Peak pan barely will sit on it, and the mug not at all, as the rounded corners just push the screen open. The only way the mug and pan will work, is when the windscreen is formed into a diamond shape which gives a bit more support on two sides. In a pinch with a perfectly level surface, you could probably use it that way but I'd not trust it. Just wanted to give a heads up for anyone else hoping to use it with a similar setup - alcohol stove, sub 4" pot/pan/mug. Larger kit and you're fine...That said, I think it's a nice piece of gear and will use it as a windscreen for my Trangia stove and Evernew Ti Cross Stand pot support. The panels fold up flat forming a package 3-3/8" x 3-3/16" x 3/16". Can't comment on long term use yet, or durability of the the pins/hinges as mentioned in one review, but initial quality and design are good, as will not having to deal with aluminum foil, etc.

Perfect add-on for Trangia 28
I own several Trangia 28 stoves (the "mini Trangia"). The stove's pot stand works well enough, but does not act as a windscreen. This windscreen is an ideal add-on to the stove for two reasons: First, it's small enough to nest inside the pot, sitting flat on the top of the burner, and between the prongs of the stand. Second, when set up, it's tall enough to cover about 3/4 inches of the pot side, thus preventing a lot of the convective heat loss. The windscreen itself is well built and functions smoothly.

Light, Solid Enough, Reasonably Priced.
The Vargo screen / support is well worth its weight and price. I have been using a home made alcohol stove for backpacking for 30 years and this unit finally lured me away from my tent stakes / rocks / heavy foil screen and support system. It is lighter than just the old windscreen made from a piece of "disposable" turkey roasting pan and much less fiddlesome than supporting a pot on three tent stakes or rocks. I may end up augmenting the windscreen function with some light foil around the pot. It will still be lighter than the old system.

After many other products and attempts, I finally found something that works.
After many other products and attempts, I finally found something that works.I've tried homemade windscreens created from aluminum license plates, beer cans, and roof flashing. All of them burn out after only a couple uses with my Vargo alcohol stove. A Chinese titanium foil windscreen off eBay didn't even survive a single use. This one has survived a 5 day backpacking trip while used with my Vargo Triad stove. My stove was used 4-5 times a day between meals and coffee. There is a little bit of minor discoloration to the shield (which is to be expected), but no significant physical distortion. It doesn't seem to be rotting away like my homemade shields did either.I like the convenience of just unfolding and folding much better than the stainless foil shield that came with my MSR Whisperlite International. It folds down small enough to fit inside my 1 liter pot outside of my cup (which contains my stove, igniter, and spork). For the record, I haven't used this with my MSR yet, I plan to try it, but if it starts distorting I'll quickly remove it before the shield is ruined.Although it doesn't even wrap all the way around my 1 liter pot, that isn't a big deal. Just place it on the side the wind is blowing from and it still works fine.My only complaint is its weight. I'm sure Vargo had their reason for not making this product of titanium like the majority of their other products, but it seems to weigh almost as much as my cookset (full titanium including pot, cup, spork, and stove). I'm not a big guy and tend to be fairly minimalist when it comes to camping (for example I use a tyvek tarp or poncho tarp), keeping my pack weight down is important to me.

Not functional
It's just not tall enough. By the time you find a way to elevate this to where it actually covers the flame, you were better off just not using it at all, and using some large rocks or something else to shield the wind. If it can't sit on the ground level AND shield the flame, what use is it?

Vargo Windscreen
This looked to be the perfect screen for my Vargo alcohol stove, which it is. I was, however, a little disappointed in the construction of it. The panels are nicely done, except that the tooling used to roll the aluminum for the hinges left scrapes in the metal at the hinges which were sharp edged, and needed to be filed down. Also, the hinge pins tend to fall right out of the hinges when trying to set the screen up around the stove for use. I found I needed to trim the hinge pins just a snitch, to allow me to peen the top and bottom edges of the hinge ever so slightly to prevent the hinge pins from sliding out. Aside from these minor issues, its the perfect compliment to my Vargo stove, and works quite well.

... a small alcohol stove and it seems to work great. Although I have yet to bring it on ...
I have used this with a small alcohol stove and it seems to work great. Although I have yet to bring it on a trip, though I have used and tested it in various weather conditions, outside; in the open and in the woods. I have it paired with the outop pot/pan cookware (more like pot and smaller pot) and the Alocs mini alcohol stove (both can be found on Amazon). It is Very nice because it fits in the bottom of the pot with the stove on top of it so it basically takes up no extra room anywhere in my pack. Also, the blue looks really nice. Whenever I end up using this on a trip, I will be sure to update this review if my opinion changes.

SMALL!
This is smaller than you may envision; uncertain as to how this could block any wind. Might keep a gerbil contained for a few seconds.

OutdoorMinimalist.net

Utilitarian Low profile windscreen
Arrived fast and intact (Amazon's 1 day shipping is phenomenal)...as advertised....well made good sturdy but light material (Anodized Aluminum) hard to bend....black powder coating holds in heat making the stove more efficient and it's easy to clean spatter off the surface of the screen...all panels extended it is 161/4" in length....it will surround up to a 5" pot and will make a semi circle of anything larger...........I bought this for my Vargo Triad stove and it fits that purpose perfectly and accommodates a 900ml MSR titanium pot perfectly<...........>but this screen also works well with the smaller low profile canister stoves (Lexada MSR) and the Trangia alcohol stove. With my Trangia stove, I just set it on the ground, adjust the windscreen around it to accommodate the size pot used and the top edge of the windscreen serves as a pot stand....great set up if you are going light and minimal....this windscreen/pot stand is a great piece of kit for the alcohol stove.

Not what expected.
Way smaller than I thought. I was hoping I could use it for multiple stoves but will only be useful if I have a stove very low to the ground. Will not work for stoves with legs or that have small tanks underneath. Was going to return but amazon wants to charge me half the cost In shipping. Maybe i can pull it apart and use the pieces as coasters

Simple but very useful device
This screen is very light. Yes, titanium seems like overkill for a simple windscreen (after all, flexible metal foil works too). However, I find that it's indestructible nature gives me confidence on long trips that it won't break down on me. I suppose the hinges could go after a while, but no issues noted. I simply store it in my kettle (pictured) and forget it's there until I need it, since it weighs almost nothing.I will say that sometimes it doesn't fold up like you would expect - there's a certain order of folding that seems to work best. But it's only a momentary fidget. And it's lightness does mean that you need to make sure it's not in a blowing gale, as it will simply blow over or fold up. In sand or with a few rocks and your full pot, it won't go anywhere.
