More fun than a broom
This is a review of the Miele C3 Calima.Quick take... pricey but a good vacuum for a smaller apartment. The added maneuverability of the smaller brush heads makes it more user-friendly for vacuuming the whole apartment. More fun than sweeping.I typically purchase upright vacuums of the less expensive variety. Like sub $100 hoover types. My previous hoover was recommended by Consumer Reports, but I never liked it very much because vacuuming the medium pile wall-to-wall carpet in my son's bedroom was difficult with it. The height adjustment didn't go high enough to avoid the "sucked to the carpet" effect, which made it very hard to push while vacuuming. After many years of dealing with it I finally decided to upgrade.I live in a 1000 sq ft apartment with a mix of flooring, some hardwood, some wall-to-wall carpet, area rugs, and tile. I have 2 rooms with wall-to-wall carpet, one low pile and one medium pile. I debated between going for a model with an electronic brush head for several hundred dollars more, or this one, which has the vacuum powered (non-electric) turbo brush head. I'm happy I decided to go with the Calima. The turbo brush head works well on bare flooring, as does the hardwood floor attachment. The turbo brush does a good job on the low pile carpet, the area rugs, and actually pretty good on the medium pile too.I think the Turbo brush is a good solution a small apartment without a lot of medium pile or thicker carpeting. It's more maneuverable than the larger bulkier electronic brushes that come with the more expensive models.Overall I really like this thing. I find myself using it to clean all my floors, hardwood, carpet and area rugs, and the tile in the bathrooms. It's really easy to maneuver around with the smaller brush heads, and I can vacuum my whole place in less than 10 minutes. I never would have used my old upright vacuum to vacuum the non-carpeted rooms of the house, it was too clunky. I find myself reaching for this more often than the broom for the bare floors. The automatic cord retractor and the accessory compartment are great. And I dig that it has hepa filtering, to help with my allergies.Of course the elephant in the room when talking about a vacuum like this is the price. At over 900 dollars after tax it's waaay more expensive than many of the other options, even other vacuums that have more fancy features than this one. But the way I see it it's an investment. Hopefully this is the last vacuum cleaner I ever have to buy.

Lightweight but powerful vacuum
I needed a lightweight vacuum, since I have some autoimmune and painful joints and so am not very fit, but also needed a vacuum that also enough power for both floors and carpet. This Miele is just the ticket. It's a touch above 16 lbs with the hose and other equipment on, but I hardly broke a sweat while vacuuming the upstairs plus the stairs of our two-floor house. The telescoping pole of the handle was long enough so that I could vacuum from the top of the stairs and not have to go all the way down to the bottom--just one step, while holding on the stair rail, that's how light it is.I like that all the small attachments are inside the canister for easy storage and I kept the handy box for the tube and larger attachments. The Miele is of very high quality, the vacuum suction is strong, and the floor brush attachment is very maneuverable and easy to use under and around furniture, as well as behind bathroom utilities such as toilets. It is also easy to store because of its smaller footprint. Highly recommended!

Elite Vacuum Cleaner
If you live inside of a home and want to keep it dust-free, a HEPA vacuum, along with an air purifier, is an absolute necessity. This is my first Miele vacuum and it is a Calima vac for a reason: It has a HEPA filter to prevent me from breathing in the dust I’m trying to clean, and it is powerful despite being remarkably quiet.I have hard flooring throughout my apartment along with some upholstered furniture. This vacuum handles it all with barely a sweat. I actually like the curry yellow color too. Makes my vac look like a sports car instead of a the typical boring white, grey, or black.Don’t go for a cheaper vac that lacks HEPA filtration. Your lungs will regret that decision of no HEPA filtration. Miel’s Calima vac is the way to go.

The Miele Kona C3 Vacuum
We have an old Miele C2 Velvet vacuum that we purchased 15 to 20 years ago that we love and still use however when we moved into a two story house with a semi finished basement and mostly wood floors we decided to add the Miele C3 Calima to avoid having to drag one vacuum to all three levels. We love how lite and easy Calima is to use, how well it vacuums and how quiet it is. We added the larger parquet twister, cutting vacuuming time noticeably. However while the Colima’s turbo brush attachment worked acceptably on the living room’s medium pile rug under most circumstances, we noticed that after our kids visited with their dogs that the turbo brush wasn’t very effective at completely removing the dog hair. Both dogs drop short hairs in abundance. After using the turbo brush the carpet would look clean but after a few days we would notice more hair reappearing requiring another vacuuming of the carpet. Since we were still lugging a vacuum to the basement we decided to add one more vacuum with a power brush to see if it would remove the dog hair more thoroughly. So we purchased the Miele C3 Kona. One thing I noticed immediately is the hose and extension tube are heavier than either of the older vacs even when using non powered attachments. Most likely the additional weight is due to the more robust design needed to supply power to the power brush. Understandable but I wasn’t expecting it. So I need to adjust my expectations accordingly. Setting my laziness generated complaint aside, does the Kona power brush remove the short dog hair more effectively? After each of the last two dog visits I used the Kona power head on the carpet and we noticed that no dog hair reappeared on the carpet in the following days. Our socks also do not have dog hair on them after walking on the cleaned carpet in stocking feet. Hopefully the two newer Mieles Hold up like the first one has. I am still amazed that after all this time that old C2 can still retract the power cord when you step on the button. In addition after using the Kona a few more times I have adjusted to the additional weight of the hose and extension tube and no longer think about it.
