Basic manual nut grinder
Purchased to grind dog treats to make food topper for my dog's dry kibbles. I needed a manual one so that I can take to camping, beach, etc. and don't have to look for power source to use. I also wanted a simple one so that I don't have to struggle to clean. The bottom part is made of real glass, which I like - easy to clean. The grinder part is aluminum, and the top cup(?) is plastic with a lid. I can grind treats at home, then take to outdoor. This is a very basic manual grinder that satisfy my simple objective. The grinder is coarse, and there is no adjustment. If you need coarse-fine adjustments, look for other options. The grinder part is delicate, including the handle. If you place something hard, it will break. I see why people saying "OK with walnuts, but NOT with almonds." If you want to grind or crush hard nuts or food, go get electrical one.

Evactly What I Wanted
We had one in the kitchen when I grew up. This works exactly as remembered. Very happy with my purchase.

Almost like Mom's
This is easy, simple, quick and not to difficult to clean. It is not quite the same quality as the one my Mom had, because the plastic top portion is a bit cheaper than hers, but it works and for the price, its a good product for the average everyday home cooking purpose. Probably won't hold up for high use, but for me using it once or twice a week for chopping onions and peppers it works perfectly.

Nut grinder
I love it. I ground 6 lbs in close to an hour. Didn't think I was going to like it but I was wrong. Awesome product.

A big disappointment!
When I was young, my family had a food chopper consisting of a large jar of heavy-duty glass and a thick wooden disk at the bottom. The lid featured a sturdy spring handle you held and pushed up and down. I remember watching my mother use it to chop various food items, and eventually, I started using it, too. It was a reliable kitchen tool built to last. When I recently decided to purchase a chopper, I noticed many require you to smack the handle. However, years ago, I once used my hand to hit a specific item repeatedly, damaging my palm and requiring medical intervention from an orthopedic surgeon. Our hands contain many nerves and blood vessels. They weren’t designed to function like hammers. Therefore, I chose to buy this chopper because it seemed to operate similarly to the one I used 70 years ago. I was highly disappointed! During the first attempt to use it, it broke. I immediately contacted Amazon, and to their credit, they promptly refunded the purchase. This chopper’s makeup never matched my childhood version – structurally or functionally.

Flimsy but works
I have an American made one of these and now a Chinese made one. The American made is heftier and about 4 oz larger. It has blades that are 90 deg apart. It has a larger mouth so is easier to get your hands in for cleaning and the plastic disc is larger and heavier and there is not very much play in the plunger. You can still buy these in stores and charity places. The Chinese one is smaller making it harder to get your hands into for any cleaning. There is a lot of play in the plunger and the blades are paper thin. The thin plastic lid wants to pop off easily and so you have to hold it on. The plastic disc is thin and softer plastic which can be picked up and tossed around inside. I have only used it for strawberries and soft white onions. I was afraid to try to chop and nuts. The blades are angled about 45 deg on the sides instead of 90. For the price, Id go the store and buy the American one off the shelf. I've chopped everything in that one with no problem.

Excellent for small amounts.
I have had this chopper before. Ex got it now. HA! This unit is obviously not on the top line shelf. Still it holds it's place in the kitchen. Just do not abuse it. You do not need to slam the cutter thru the ottoman plate and glass. Just chop with reasonable force. I chop, shake, and chop. Continue until you reach your desired grate. I love to make fine onion bits, for Hotdogs. Just the best. I actually learned at an early age about this process for Hotdogs. The ladies in our neighborhood ballpark for the girls softball, and boys Babe Ruth Baseball. They used one just like it to chop pounds of onions each season.
