So much more comfortable.
My dog just had two tumors removed; one in the mouth and one on her head. The vet gave me one of those hard plastic cones. I purchased one of these and I'm so glad I did. First, she's a 7lb Maltese and she fits a medium perfectly (plus there are a few snap buttons to make it larger or smaller). It's more open, like a satellite dish, and doesn't completely smush her head. She's able to drink water by herself without me having to take off the cone, but I do have to take it off when she eats.Edit: please take note that this product says it's for SMALL animals, so when you're picking sizing, your sizing up how large your small animal is - make sense? My dog is a petite Maltese and the medium fit her perfectly using the last row of buttons, even with all her hair. There ARE button snaps on there to adjust the sizing. For example: I got a medium and if I used the first row of snaps, it would be too tight for my Maltese dog. However, using the last row, it fit her just fine.

Absolutely fantastic for a cat if you get the correct size!
This thing has saved my poor cat. I went through 2 of the soft collars before finally giving up on those and getting this plastic one (she was able to bend the soft one and still lick at hot spots on the insides of her back legs and belly.) Her neck measures exactly 8 inches around so I ordered the large because the DEPTH is what I really needed (I use the 3rd snap, there's 3 available to make it tighter or looser.) Cats are VERY acrobatic. There is NO WAY on earth this cat is licking anything other than perhaps the last inch of her tail (if that) with this thing on. She's had it on for a couple months already (repeat offender) and it seems quite comfortable. It almost felt too snug when I first put it on, but after watching her carefully she didn't mind it and it has loosed a tiny bit over time so seems like a perfect fit now. I did like how the old soft collar was, well, soft, but I also like that this one is see-through so it's a toss-up. I have not really had issues with it getting scuffed up from her running into things, but then again she's a small cat not a dog barreling into walls! After a couple months, it's finally got a scuff or two but that has zero affect on it's function. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because an inch or 2 of the stitching came loose after a couple weeks where the plastic is secured to the soft black part around her neck but it hasn't affected function and could be restitched if I felt like it. Overall I think this is a superb collar if you order the correct size!!!

Great quality but their sizing chart is wrong!
Upon reading other reviews, I took the advice of many whom stated the sizes ran small. Indeed they do! I was worried when I first started snapping the cone together...thinking "maybe I should have gone with a large instead of XL...". However, I was pleasantly surprised when it fit perfect around our Min-Pin's 9inch neck. I will note that our dog is a "houdini" of sorts & the specific reason I purchased this item in the first place was because it had a feature many cones dont....a latch to hook it to a collar or harness. I was relieved that she couldnt get this one off- despite hours of hilarious attempts. This is a great product that is durable, arrived on time, wont come off your pet, but in conclusion: I believe this product was intended for cats & very small dogs. Our dog is under 11lbs & if I had ordered the size recommended for her neck size, it would have been too small!

Very flexible, not for most needs
The good: The product is very well made. The fabric is soft and seemed to be more comfortable for my dog than the plastic one that we got from the vet. My dog also seemed to like being able to see out of the clear plastic sides. There is a D-ring on the side, so you can use it as a collar to attach the leash to, which is very convenient. It is also shorter than the cone that we got from the vet which allowed the dog to sniff without face planting and seemed to make eating/drinking easier for her. My dog definitely prefered this cone to the white plastic one that we got from the vet.The bad: The fabric, of course, is very flexible, but the clear plastic part is also very bendable. This means that if our dog wants to she can flex it back. At the same time the cone is significantly shorter than the more rigid white plastic one that we got from the vet. In our case we were trying to prevent our dog from rubbing a facial injury and this product was very poorly suited to that task. I think that it would also be bad for anything, like a paw injury or an injury on the back end or anywhere where being able to partially fold up the plastic would be enough to allow access to the wound. Also, be careful with the sizing, the sizes given in inches are accurate, but run much smaller than you would assume. The XL was only barely the correct size for my Corgi on the largest setting. If you have an actually large dog, these will not fit. Conclusion: I would absolutely use this cone over the "normal" ones if it worked for our needs. However, I don't think that there are a lot of circumstances where these will work. Upper torso injuries and/or short nosed breeds (like pugs) and cats seem like the only time this product could be used effectively. And in the case of upper torso injuries, those inflatable donut style cone alternatives are probably an even better option.

Don't do it.
I bought this for my skinny cat. she had a cut on her chin she kept scratching at. A week in a collar and I knew she would be great. She has a tiny neck and is an escape artist when it comes to getting out of her regular collar. I tried to fit this cone on her and it was way, way to small. I could snap it but it was so tight she would have choked. The length was good and it would have worked great if not for the ridiculous size of the neck hole. I bought the small. If you are like me and read through the reviews reading peoples messages and concerns. I figured since people said it was small that would be a good thing. No, it is too small. It might fit a tiny kitten but then the length would be too long. It is disproportionate for a dog or cat.
