Amazing sword for the price!
The sword is clearly described as a replica so I wasn't expecting much but I was very impressed when I got it. The handle is not plastic as some reviewers have mistakenly posted - it is metal. It is a very light and cheap metal, yes, but it is metal. The blade wasn't razor sharp or anything, but it was pretty sharp. I think sharpness on replica swords is really just the luck of the draw as they are hand-grinded. A lot of people posted that the sword is too heavy and unbalanced but that is not a flaw: the sword is designed to be tip-heavy and very heavy overall as it is designed for lopping off an army or leg as depicted in the film. I know the one guy was disappointed that the sword was too heavy for his girlfriend to lift one-handed but I was impressed with how heavy it was - it's supposed to be heavy! Yes, the handle was wrapped with crappy nylon strip. I simply peeled it off and re-wrapped the handle with some immitation suede that I got for $2 at a fabric store and it looks just like genuine leather wrapping now. For one negative, the handle was a bit too long (as another reviewer correctly noted) and the handle was loose as well but I took the handle apart and reinforced it with an additional nut and washer (the handle connects to the blade via bolt welded to the blade) and shorted the handle as well. Now the sword looks and feels 100% real and while it's maybe not technically "battle ready" I disagree with Eric, I would totally use this to fight off zombies! As for the guy who spent $50 on shipping, I got the sword, sheath and shipping for $50.50 total. And speaking of the sheath, it wasn't the most amazing sheath I've ever seen, it does the job and it is definitely worth the money. In short, as far as replica swords go, there is not a better deal than this!

Fantastic costume blade, so so as a real sword.
Visually, the sword is a pretty good match for the movie. Quality seems decent, its bascially a large chunk of steel, but none of it seems weak or flimsy. The leather on the handle is decent enough for the purpose.Physically, this is not a sword you're going to use to fight zombies. It's extremely point heavy and badly balanced. It does not come very sharp, but not dull either. The point is sharp enough to tear holes in things. In my opinion, it's a phenomanal costume blade, but little use as an actual weapon in its intitial state. The blade is simply too thick to swing much. The sheath is a very "meh" addition. My sword ripped a whole right through the side when I was putting it back in the sheath the first day. It's only floppy leather and head together with straps. The strap on it is at about the right height to secure it to your leg if you're using the leather loop to hook it to your belt. I couldn't think of anyway to wear it where the strap alone would secure it to me, it's too low on the sheath to be on my waist, and not shaped right for my back. But you're not buying this for the sheath, so all that said, it doesn't hurt the product in my opinion. All in all I think this is a great product if it fits the use you're going to put it. If you want something to put on a mantle, wear as a costume, or a keepsake to remind you of Spartan bravery, this is great. If you want something to fight persians with, you will be somewhat dissapointed.

Awesome Sword
I received the sword today, and it is incredible. Far better looking and feeling than I expected. The sword has a good weight, is balanced, strong, and the metal from the blade extends deep into the handle. AKA Full TangThe hand guard is made from a heavy and dense plastic, as opposed to steel. But it does not detract from the sword at all, because I couldn't tell until I actually felt it. To the eye, it appears to be steel as well. The blade is actually fairly sharp, and care should be taken as to not cut yourself or others. The handle wrap seems to be secured very well. If it does start to come off, I will rewrap it with leather cord, or possibly just reattach it with a stronger leather glue.Addressing the comment from Andy. The oil on the blade is actually to protect it during shipping, so as to keep it from rusting during transport. Most of the oil should be removed with a dry cloth or paper towel. And applying a small amount of sword oil every month or so will add to the longevity and beauty of the blade. The blade does actually has a black texturing on it, giving it an aged look. It appears to have been applied very well, and most likely won't come off over time. I gently scraped at a small section with another blade and nothing would come off, proving its resilience. One concern. The sheath that is said to come with the sword must have been shipped separately, since I have not received it yet. I received the sword 3 days from the order, and I still have several days of the estimated delivery to go, so this does not detract from my rating. I will make a follow up review of the sheath when it arrives.

pretty kool, but could have been awesome!
I ordered this sword on september 20th and it arrived 3 days late. Overall I really like it! It looks like the one from the movie and is of good quality. Its carbon steel but is made to look like battle worn iron. Its solid and has good weight. its full tang. It doesnt come sharp at all, but that can be remedied with some proper sword sharpening. Now the bad part. The one MAJOR flaw that i have with this sword is that it does NOT come with actual leather, its vinyl! For some this might not be a big problem, and for me, initially, it wasn't, But soon after getting it i was placing it back in its sheath and it cut right through it. now my sheath is ruined! also the vinyl rings that surround the grip tend to loosen and shift around, exposing the wood of the grip underneath, as well as preventing me from getting a good grip. also the sheath could have been better designed. the shoulder strasp connect behind it, and so the sword sorta dangles foreword. Had the shoulder straps been in the front, they would hold the sword against your body, firmly in place.I think i should have weighted. I noticed that they seem to recently redesigned the sword. The grip is now black and hopefully they fixed the problem with the rings. The blade seems to look even better now as well. unfortunately i believe it comes with the same sheath.
