This is the third generation. It was released in 2018

What is the model number?

I don't have it any more, so can't tell you. It was the 2018 3rd generation model. It was in great shape and worked great for a month or so. Then it would not charge at all. I returned it for a full refund, thank God. I ordered a current one from Apple with AppleCare. It took several weeks to get it from China, but it is working great and AppleCare gives me peace of mind.

The usb, is only for charging?? can i connect a printer using the usb cable?

According to apples website you can connect other other devices with the usb-c. It is not specific as to printers, but from what I have read it does seem possible to connect a printer using the usb-c cable. You will need an adapter. If your purchase of this hinges solely on connecting a printer through a cabled connection then I suggest doing more research. However I do know other devices can be connected to the iPad Pro. You can even connect the iPad Pro to your iPhone with a usb-c to usb-c and the iPad will charge the iPhone.

If I buy the iPad Pro with the protection plan and decide to return it, will the protection plan get refunded as well?

Haven't had to ever return it. So I'm oretty sure you wouldn't have any problems with all that. It's a wild guess but Amazon stands behind their stuff and is more that ready to make things right with the customer!
