Love these
I enjoyed working with these oil sticks. Very juicy and opaque . I used them to sketch in the composition and for much of the sky. Fun

Poor quality, expensive, and useless
I got a very stale and old set that made it almost useless. The set I got had a hardened outer layer. I had to scrape off the unusable parts and dig it out one glob at a time. So annoying!! It wasted me a lot of time and completely defeated the purpose of oil sticks! A little background about oil pigment sticks: The pigments were blended in resin/wax, so basically they are oil paint in the form of a stick. You are supposed to be able to pick it up and draw on canvas like using a piece of chalk to draw on the sidewalk. That easy. Of course some artists would use fancier techniques like melting it and dripping it onto something, cutting it in small chunks to blend with other colors, etc. When the wrappings of each stick are not airtight, the oil stick reacts with the oxygen in the air and hardens/solidifies. Whatever part that is hardened is useless. It is as if the paint has already "dried". (Water-based paint "dries" by losing water; while oil-based paint "dries" by reacting with oxygen. Since there is no water in oil paint, the drying process is actually a the process of oxidation. The result is the oil paint becomes hard and solid.) Basically, the product I got was sitting in the warehouse for too long for its use. I recommend buying from the company directly or from other art supply stores. Not from Amazon. This is a total waste of my money!! I'd do better buying oil paint in a tube. They are a lot less expensive compared to these sticks.

Using with encaustics - excellent quality of pigment
I'm using on my encaustic paintings and they do a great job of adding texture, aging, additional shading and overall finish to any work. MOST EXCELLENT.

Worth making the investment.
These sticks are quality and live up to the hype. I feel are much less messy than mixing up oil in coldwax and dry at about same speed. Used to draw lines, mix with oil/cold wax or wet tip with linseed oil to use like oil paint with brush. Fantastic, worth the investment.

Takes a long time to dry
I paint with acrylic but thought I would try these out- they take like most oil paint a long time to dry but you can use them just like a crayon so will be a useful item to have in my paintings
