Would you plug this in close to router or the garage

I plugged mine inside the garage - this put 2 wooden walls & about 100 ft. outdoors between the router in the house & the tp-link. It works great! (and sends the signal through another 25 ft. and another wooden wall) into the shop building (garage attached)

Want to add to my apartment over the garage. Will it work there?

I was really surprised on how well this worked and how far I was away from my router. Our router is upstairs and we had issues in the basement have a good signal all the time. I linked up the device as instructed then moved the extender to the first floor and had good strength so then I moved the extender to the basement and it is working great! Very surprised.

Does it send the signal to a lower floor or it only works horizontally?

In our case the extender was on the 2nd floor (modem on the 1st floor). Because the signal fluctuated so much, it was not even tested out on the 3rd floor. This unit was returned to vendor.
