good espresso machine
this machine is compact, it's beautiful, and it's easy to use. it was my first espresso machine, I use it almost every day. I'm going to upgrade my espresso machine, I think I owe this unit a good review since it accompanied with me for 6 years with no fault. I bought this lovely machine in 2019, the price after discount was less then 100. it's kind of low end product if I look at it now, I don't understand why they price this unit to close to 500, the same price could get a Breville...

Met my Expectations
This was my first espresso machine. So, I am no expert on the topic. But I do a'lot of research before I buy any item and I like drinking coffee a'lot :) Before I got this machine I used to drink a'lot of Turkish coffee and now I can enjoy a nice cup of espresso drink also. So, here is what I think about the product: 1. Prepares nice hot espresso shots that are at the right temperature. If you properly warm the machine and your cups then you'll get a really hot drink. I did not face the luke warm coffee issue. Just run the machine empty once, warm your cups with hot water before poring coffee into them and properly warm your milk. That's it..If your coffee is not hot enough then you are probably missing some of these steps. The machine works fine. 2. It does very creamy espresso shots. Actually, I was very impressed with how creamy the espresso shots turned out. 3. Nice look, a little too much plastic but still looks very stylish. No complaints on the look and feel. 4. Build quality looks good so far. 5. Only complaint is I wish the milk frother would stick out more. But you'll get used to it. It's not a huge issue. Overall I think it's good value for the price.

Worst expresso machine EVER!
This is my 4th expresso maker over the past 15 years. Others varied in price from over $700 from Pete's Coffee to under $100. This one is awful. It does NOT make more than a few drops of expresso. I would have returned it but I waited over the 30 day return window to try it out since my old (Mr Coffee) machine took longer to fail than I expected. It had lasted 7 years. So I called the company. They were nice enough and worked with me until I was able to get a single espresso to brew. BUT that was only that once. What it took was not just the pre-heat (you must run about a half cup of water through the system before you brew regularly), but their tech solution was to run 2 cups of water through the steam outlet--as water. They said that an air pocket can form in there and prevent adequate pressure from building up in the espresso pump. Okay. Problem solved--NOT. Next time I attempted to make a cup, it failed again and I had to do the whole remove-the-air-pocket protocol again! Even then it did not work. I have played with this machine now for about 2 weeks and I STILL cannot get it to make a double espresso. And it will make a single dose ONLY if I run the 2 cups of water through the steam outlet immediately before brewing -and that not consistently. In addition, the steam outlet leaks despite all valves being closed. And due to its position, it is cannot be caught in the drip tray, so the counter gets soaked. That I can't brew espresso is a deal breaker. I have wasted an enormous amount of distilled and RO water plus organic coffee as I have tried to solve this. Yes, I have tried every variety of grind to see if that has anything to do with it. It does not. The "texture of sand" grind or even coarser simply does not work. The finer grinds never even get a drip. It seems to me that there is just not enough pressure in the system (or perhaps a leak). Other features, even if the machine worked, that I don't like is that the cup inserts are a very light metal and have a rubber gasket inside them in contact with the coffee. I have not seen this in any of the other machines. Nor was the preheat necessary in any other one. Preheat is not horrible, just an unnecessary inconvenience. I will be contacting the company to attempt to get them to replace this machine with one that works. I cannot imagine anyone selling something so incapable of fulfilling its function as this. But even if they do, I have wasted about 3 weeks and the inconvenience and expense of having to mail something big when I would have expected to received a product that worked, even if more flimsily made that any other machine I have had. So be warned and if you do decide to go ahead with this machine, unpack and test it immediately so you can return it if it is as nasty as mine! THE SEQUEL: DeLonghi outsources their customer service to Alorica, a business process solutions company, which means you are never able to talk to anyone in the technical department. BUT, after repeated calls to complain to their customer service, they did send me a replacement machine. I had to mail in the cord on the machine (at my own expense--they said it would not be very expensive. As far as I am concern even $4 more for a problem with their machine is too much.) Anyway, the official word was that the pump was defect and the machine that replaced the defective one does actually make espresso. It is still far more complicated than my previous machines, but it certainly is better in that it is possible to brew.

Overall happy with the product
We were worried about purchasing this product after reading the previous review about the lukewarm results. However, we had read so many other reviews of similar machines that we thought it could easily have been user error. When we bought the machine, we actually read the manual very carefully before doing anything. (Not our typical style :) We followed the instructions. We did more than the minimum 5 recommended times of running the machine using water only; it needed about 10 times of this to get really hot -- but only on the first time out of the box. The espresso itself can be pretty good, but probably only for a casual espresso drinker. Even for casual sippers such as ourselves, it is easy to pull a shot that is completely undrinkable. (Actually, my husband is less discerning, so we feed him the "bad" shots.) I know what a beautiful espresso tastes like since I work next to a famous Illy shop in DC, and this espresso is, sadly, not the same. But, it is still very wonderful and enjoyable. Very drinkable, if you take care. Overall, I am very happy with this purchase. I would like to give another tip, which is that the first 10 or so times that you use the machine, the filter attachment (the thing with the handle) is extremely hard to get to its fully attached position. Fully attached is perpendicular to the machine; this is not indicated anywhere in the manual. So if your machine is LOUD, you may not have this fully attached. It gets easier after a few uses. The machine is not very loud when you use it properly. Cheers!

This has been one of the best purchases ever. It's quite easy to use, it just takes practice especially if you've never used an espresso machine before. It makes a great cup of coffee and lattes and cappucino's are pretty much effortless to make. It will save your budget a lot because you won't feel the need to go buy lattes every morning when you get proficient at using this machine. There's been a few things that have happened that are unexpected, like one of the buttons sticking and the steam wand just draining water. But it is a "cheaper" espresso machine. I don't expect it to perform perfectly.
