Fast heat in this thin iron. Great for getting into tight areas, it has a true pencil style profile that makes getting into dense point-to-point wiring a lot easier. I've been using this to do a Zenith tube Hi-Fi restoration from 1961, and the slender style has made the heartache of component replacement way easier, especially in the tuner section of this old Hi-Fi where the component density is pretty high. It heats very quickly and the tiny dial on the iron does indeed regulate temp as one would expect. I don't know if it truly can hit 600 degrees, but it is a 60 Watt rated element which would seem to indicate it should be able to. My classic Weller iron at work is rated for 40 Watts and I find it adequate for most work I do, but I figured on working on vacuum tube stuff, where grounds are tied to the chassis in places, so I thought the extra heat would be nice in this small package. Versatile, yet petite, I find I can work with it well. I do like that it comes with all the little accessories. I use totally different solder and soldering iron holder and sponge (the sponge in this kit is paper thin, not worth anything). What really sold me on it was all the desoldering tools. I would have to pay more for these individually than what I paid for the kit with the iron included. So it was worth it just for that. I haven't tried the solder sucker yet, but it seems to behave like my old Radio Shack one did, so I reckon it'll be fine. The iron was a nice bonus. It works rather well, and I rarely have to go higher than half way on the dial to get hot enough to do anything I want. I don't expect it to hold up for as many years as my Weller, but if it lasts for a few years, that'll be fine, at least the other tools will carry on. The tools were kind of scrambled in the kit when I first got it. The elastic doesn't hold things in place as well as one might hope. But, still, all this in one little portable package is pretty good. Also, the carry loop hanging out the bottom of the kit is where the zipper ends, so tools can fall out through this hole where the loop comes out from the inside. I could have done without the carry loop, just secure all the tools inside by making it zip up all the way around! Just an idea.

This tool is awesome. The iron heats up fast. The accessories feel durable and high quality. I was pleasantly surprised. Considering the price, my expectations were not very high. However, this set is MUCH better than many others that are more than double the price. I actually ordered a second one as a gift. Kept one for myself. Be careful to hold the knurled / slotted section when changing tips, to be on the safe side. The handle seems to slip a little if you don't.

I had been buying soldering irons at the local big chain store. I'd get a few uses out of them and they would just stop working right. I haven't had any issues with this one and it still works as good as the first time I used it.

I got this to be able to put it holes and soldier various projects. The tool gets hot very fast, just what I needed.

For the price works as expected, would buy again.
