Solid and economical choice.
This is the centerpiece of my stage rack in a gigging metal band; I feel a positive review is well-deserved.The unit is smaller than you'd think it is. Maybe a dollar-bill wide? Very sturdy and I have not had much of an issue with double-stomping the footswitches, which have positive clicks when depressed. All metal top (probably aluminum chassis?) and seems drop-proof. Only issue I had is that the battery compartment in the back is plastic and got ripped off when I tried to velcro it to the board -- hardly an issue as I run this hard-wired, will not be using batteries for it, ever. Note that the dials are not detented at all, and have moved in my pedal board bag. Keep your settings in mind.On stage, I run this as a DI box, no amp 99% of the time, along with a Line 6 V30 wireless and a cheapo Donner noise-gate. My primary stage bass is an LTD F4E in E-standard tuning. Clean and gain channel volume is up to about 7 and 9 respectively, blend at about 60%, gain only at about 35%. Nose gate active, maybe around 40%-50%. Bass at 40-45%, mids and treble are at around 65% and 70%.I find that this lets my bass cut through and still maintain enough edge to fit the style of music. Tone is clean and crisp; at very high gain it'll get muddy and lost in the mix against any kind of potent guitar tone, but that's normal for every effect I've tried thus far. For the raggedy edges of downtuned brutal music, I might consider a dedicated gain pedal, but it's not honestly necessary.Overall it's a very flexible, reliable, economical (!!) choice for the gigging bassist who needs something competent but doesn't want to drop $250 on a Sansamp or $400 on a Darkglass B7K. Would purchase again, but would probably upgrade if money were no object.

so you can quickly dial in many excellent clean or distorted tones
Sounds incredible on either channel, the channel blending feature give the pedal a range of tones that is very diverse for one pedal, so you can quickly dial in many excellent clean or distorted tones. That alone would be enough to rate this pedal 5 stars, but that is just where it starts. If you are looking to increase the quality of your home recording rig, look no further. I've run this through a couple of different amps, and direct into garageband and the sound quality is excellent in all cases. This gives you options for direct & mic'd recording due to the multiple outputs, I've had great results mixing the DI down with an additional feed from a condenser mic on my amp, and I'm not even going through a mixing console, just through a simple Tascam stereo USB interface direct into Garageband. I hear a huge difference on the bass tracks I've recorded and mixed in with Guitar tracks using this pedal vs. what I was using before.

Amp replacement?
I rarely play bass but like having in home studio. Allowed me to give space-consuming bass amp the heave-ho and play through PA. Phantom power is nice. Not sure how it would be playing out. Very pleased with my application.

Great for clean pre-amp application
Love the sound for my application (clean power / pre-amp for an Epiphone "Beatle" bass) and the XLR and 1/4" output are super handy (have used for DI and to plug in a tuner) I'm sure I'm using about 10% of the box's capabilities but that 10% is working great.
