Prepare for stress free walks, because it WORKS! Even with a giant STRONG 140 pound dog!
This Halti lead is AMAZING. Complete game changer for helping control a giant breed dog. We were at our wits end and about to purchase a prong or shock collar before someone recommended trying this option first. After a couple uses, it is so easy to put on and clips right into the ring on the front of his harness. The material is soft yet durable. He can drink water and eat treats with it on too. I was concerned it might be too small for his big head, but the part that clips around the neck (right behind the ears) is extremely adjustable. This could easily fit an even bigger dog. We purchased the largest one, size 5. Back story: We have a 16 month old, 140 pound Leonberger with an extremely high prey drive. In the past on walks we would have to either let go of the leash or risk getting pulled down and drug - yes he’s that strong. It became a not so fun game of planning our ventures based on avoiding places where bunnies, prairie dogs and squirrels might be. We had to constantly be on high alert, it was super stressful. Initially with the lead, he would still react, but quickly realize that he was not in control and calm down. At this point, we have been using this lead everyday for months on walks. He now mostly just observes the critters and rarely pulls at all! I am finally comfortable walking my huge dog alongside my son in the stroller. I’m so glad we found a simple, safe, inexpensive solution!

Immediate results for reactive dog
*****1 week update***** TLDR; 6YR old rescue dog goes from being an animal-aggressive/fearful/reactive dog to a being a better citizen I can walk around the neighborhood with the Halti headcollar as a training tool. My original review was more product related and discussed pulling. Had to update because it's more incredible than I realized. My boy would either lunge aggressively, flip out in panic, or scurry away and pull hard when he would spot another animal on a walk. It has been a scary 9 months where I have often feared and dreaded taking him out because he is big and has attacked others (thankfully not too severely because I have good reflexes). He is usually good with basic obedience commands but would go into a blind rage or panic thrash and become impossible. I did a couple of weeks of giving him kibble as soon as he laid eyes on another dog. It helped a bit, but wasn't perfect because he wouldn't take the treats gently when in a tizzy. Then I got this Halti. I spent a few days correcting him for his bad attitude (tight leash, quick tug, and stern vocal correction AS SOON as he looks at another dog funny, or his posture gets stiff, or he goes into hunt mode -- shut that down, which wasn't possible with normal leash/collar corrections.) Successfully walk away for a few yards? Sit, "good boy", treat, keep going. He fought the Halti the first couple of times that he wanted to flip out, but soon realized it was a fight he would lose. Consistent and immediate corrections all week... started giving him treats and "good boys" for being more calm about walking away from dogs the next couple of days. It's amazing. I'm still careful and keep him a few yards away from other animals, but we went to the local park today at dog walk o'clock and he was amazing, I didn't even bother with treats. He's definitely getting it now: that 1) I do NOT want him to react or fixate. 2) He's not going to win fighting the Halti. 3) the other dogs are not all out to get us. 4) walk away from another reactive dog? Extra praise and good boy kibbles for being the bigger dog! (He's overweight so he can't always get treats, but I sit him down and give him affection instead sometimes, then keep walking.) He saw many dogs at the park today and did not lunge at, bark at, or whine and pull from a single one. He was a little weary of a couple but didn't freak out at all, just kept glancing at them cautiously but walked away knowing what was good for him. Anyway: 5 stars. We can live in peace now. I hope if you're a reactive dog owner who has come home in tears of frustration, that you will give this a try for your dog and believe in their best self (also beckman's dog training on youtube - very helpful if you're not sure where to start.) ***** My 64lb border heeler is wearing a size 2 (he's overweight) and generally is not trash on a leash. At a distance of a few feet ahead of me, he usually won't pull AS badly as some other dogs I've had (unless he sees a cat/squirrel/dog, then he goes NUTS), but if I tried to get him to walk next to me or focus on me and find me, no luck. Just got it yesterday, that video our first walk with the headcollar and double ended leash (that I'm not sure I'm using right frankly). I used treats when putting it on. I pulled him away easily (you pull - dog listens - and gentle motions do just fine, no need to be harsh at all) or distracted him with treats when he tried to take it off mid-walk a few times. He's annoyed that it works. I love that it works. Seriously, I'm barely holding the leash and he is not pulling, so I'm amazed. I stop, he stops. We're turning together 😭. Seems comfortable enough and build seems good, too. Size 2 is perfect according to the Halti size recommendations for a cattle dog, but I did measure him just in case since he's a mix. I'm hopeful that, along with the treat conditioning I'm doing with him when he sees animals on walks, it'll help his reactivity and make walking him less stressful.

Over 20 Years Later, and I still absolutely ADORE the Halti!!!
I don't get why this product has such a high return rate, unless people may have gotten the wrong measurements for their doggo. But oh my goodness, it's still as amazing as when we were first introduced to it in 2001! Back then, we had a 100 lbs Labrador mix who was crossed with all kinds of ornery, and even after obedience classes and all kinds of training, he would pull so hard he'd regularly yank me down to the ground, break free from my grip, and take off for adventures around our neighborhood (namely running to the nearby cow pasture to roll in cow patties. Which really stunk. Washing cow poo out of dog fur outside on a cold autumn afternoon is not fun, would not recommend). I'm not exaggerating at all when I say the halti collar saved my dog from being dropped off at the shelter, because my parents were just about fed up with the stubborn boy. But then our vet recommended trying the halti collar. And man, was it a game changer! All of a sudden, we could easily walk him! There was no more tugging, pulling, or knocking us to the ground. We could actually get him to heel. And, with positive reinforcement, he grew to love it, even running up to us to put his muzzle inside the halti because he knew it meant we were going out on another delightful walk! And here I am now, over 20 years later, finally ordering my second halti collar as my last one sadly bit the dust, and it's just as good as all those years ago! My Caucasian Shepherd/Pyrenees cross is doing great with it, and I'm so grateful to be able to be able to experience the wonderful joy of using a halti with a large dog all over again! I love how they've improved the design, with extra padding in the halter around the nose area, as well as the fabulous added safety strap to help prevent the halter from slipping off the muzzle! It also has added reflective material which my old one did not have. And, after just a couple of positive training sessions, I'm already noticing a difference in his tugging, and I'm controlling him with a lot more ease. If you have a big dog or a hard to manage dog to walk, I absolutely encourage you to get the halti! It has been a favorite dog walking collar of mine for over 2 decades, and I plan on continuing to use it in the years to come. Definitely recommend!

Works well if dogs acclimated appropriately
I purchased a size 2 for my 37 lb Aussie/Sheltie mix. He can't be walked on a collar due to tracheal damage (also, collars in general aren't the safest way to walk dogs in general). He hates being walked on harnesses, and will back away when I pull out most of his harnesses. However, he loves being walked on his Halti. He readily presses his nose into it when it's time to go. He's not a super strong puller, but does walk very nicely and politely on the Halti. I selected it over other options because it allows added security by clipping the halti to the collar. This doesn't add any resistance to the Halti, just safety. I used three steps to help him acclimate to the Halti: 1. Fasten the neck strap only, letting the nose loop hang. Walk him as normal (on a harness) like this for 2-3 days. 2. Fasten the neck strap and apply the nose loop. Keep the leash attached to the harness. Let him wear the nose loop for a few minutes, then remove it. Work up over the course of 2-3 days to having him wear the nose loop (without a leash attached to it) for the entirety of the walk. 3. Use the Halti with leash attached for a few minutes on and off - switch between using the Halti and the original method of walking. Over the course of 2-3 days, advance to using the Halti for the entire walk. This method went very well with my dog, although there are other methods that work great too. The Halti seems very durable, and I'm happy with the added safety of the collar snap. This has been important for me, since my dog has a long, slender nose, which has allowed him to slip out of head collars in the past - definitely something to keep in mind for those with slender-nosed breeds. He can pant in it just fine, so it does get kind of slobbery when we walk, but quickly dries. I haven't noticed any hair loss on his nose - but he does want a good snout massage after every walk. If your dog is just a wild walker in general, the Halti isn't magic - your dog still needs leash manners training even with one of these to prevent injuries and freak outs. However, for dogs that hate harnesses and owners who avoid collars, it's an excellent choice.

Gold standard for aggressive pullers!
i ordered this using recommendations from rufus for the size. it had recommended for my husky i get a size 3. when it got here i thought it looked kinda small and like he may bust out of it so i decided to put it on my dog and test it out. he did not like it at all but its something new that he just needs to get use to. i tried to comfort him and redirect him from putting his paws between it almost getting him self stuck by standing over top of him and pulling his paws out and trying to give him a hug while petting him. honestly it wasnt until i decided to test it out outside that he really started to adapt to it more quickly and honestly its a day and night difference. my dog isnt a people barker he likes to bark at other dogs and my apartment has quite a few dogs. i was able to walk where he could see dogs and he would flail a little then settle and just watch them as the other dogs acted crazy. it was great. honestly this thing should be the gold standard for aggressive pullers. ive tried almost everything with my husky and this by far works the best. Fingers crossed it holds and i can get him under a good routine! i dont have a picture of him in it just yet but once i get him a little more adapted to it and i feel comfortable pulling my phone out, ill snag some pics for sure!

The adjustment loosens when walking your dog!
This Halti self loosens and there is nothing to do about except buy the more expensive one...which I did...actually bought 2 as I have Lab Mix sisters we got at 4 weeks and now they will be 13 years young on March 1st!! They run around and fly up a staircase like they're 2!! It is really quite amazing. Anyway...enough about my girls! They are only 65 and 80 pounds. Every single time I took them out, the old Halti where it clasps around their necks has loosened. It is very frightening to me. I know it is attached to their collars as well but if that were all the security I wanted for them I never would have purchased a Halti. Also, lets be clear that the security that attaches to their collars is the most flimsy type of material as is the clasp that goes on their collars. Not what I want my girl's lives hanging by. Also it needs to be noted that a dog can easily get out of the old Halti and you'll be holding them by the flimsy piece attached to their collar. If you are like me...you will have grabbed their collars like a Viper. A nanosecond after that you will have knelt down so you can hold them till somewhere safe which, for me, is inside my home!! The Halti is an amazing product. Just be certain to buy the expensive one and be certain you are using it correctly. It is relatively easy to figure it out. This may help you...the red Halti logo always goes on your dog's right side of her head facing out. I believe if that was part of the directions it would help a lot of people. A couple of my dog friends were actually putting theirs on backwards. All is well now in this doggie community!

Comfort
YES. This is our third gentle lead for our dog. It sits well across the bridge of his nose and does not pull or twist his fur or skin as some other options did in the past. He is able to open his mouth fully when not pulling do to the adjustable design that only tightens when he pulls. This sits firmly on his head and does not slide. It looks good and color (orange) was as advertised. Our dog did chew it once ( while not wearing it) and we repurchased in a heart beat. We like this for product in particular for our dog’s comfort while wearing a gentle lead.

Immediate Difference in My SDiT!!
I'll update this later if anything changes, but my initial review is that I love this headcollar. I have a 3 year old Golden Retriever who is a Service Dog in Training. He is a GREAT tasker, but has been getting a bit over zealous on the leash. I tried a cheap random brand from some random pet store and he HATED it. I tried adjusting the fit. I tried treats and multiple other things and he refused to even try with something wrapped around his muzzle. Once I got the fit right and realized the safety strap was overstimulating to his chest... it took him 5 minutes to learn to give to pressure. Hours went by with the other brand. This? 20 minute total training session and 15 of that was me as the handler also learning how best to utilize it. This will hep him learn to settle better in public spaces so that he can finally lose the "in Training" part of his title. It also feels very sturdy and well made and should last awhile! Very impressed!

Works well. Doesnt suit all dogs temperaments
Woreks as it sipposed to. Just be aware that some dogs hate head halters (as my dog did so I had to get a Sporn)

Pretty Decent
Packaging looks underwhelming. I hope it's a brand new product. It does look new. Sizing wise is perfect for my mini golden doodle who is 13kg.

Game changer!
Absolute game changer! Such a simple design that has revolutionised our walks! We have a strong medium dog and he wouldn’t stop pulling, this collar fixed it in one outing. Nice design, subtle and love that it rewards not pulling by being less restrictive. The reflective aspect is also a bonus. Highly recommend!
