excellent as any bodum product!
The carafe arrived in perfect shape as the packaging was protective enough. It's just like the promo pictures, what I expected! I will definitely keep buying Bodum!

Get yourself a spare for the inevitable breakage!
We love our French Press, but I have a habit of breaking at least 2 pieces of glassware a month, so of course this carafe is no exception. I just keep a spare around at all times - lol. This is a recommended coffee press from Cook's Illustrated, who wrote: "Tasters praised the coffee from this classic pot: “good flavor, lots of sediment,” with a “pleasant” taste and a “slightly richer,” “not-too-thin texture.” It’s easy and straightforward to set up and clean. But the thin glass walls of this traditional press lost heat faster than insulated pots did. It does a great job if you’re drinking the coffee right away, but it cools off quickly." Their favorite French Press, however, is the Bodum Columbia French Press Coffee Maker, Double Wall, 8 Cup: "This thick, insulated pot was as simple to use as a traditional glass press, but it kept coffee hotter much longer. It’s also sturdier, with a round, comfortable handle. It took top honors in our tasting, producing coffee that tasters called “rich,” “rounded,” “nutty,” and “full-bodied.” Note: This model might temporarily become harder to find. The manufacturer has confirmed it is not discontinued, but it unfortunately will not be back in stock until early 2015."Cook's Illustrated never steers me wrong; this thing makes some GOOD coffee and my husband gets fresh-brewed every morning made by yours truly :)

Good replacement
It's great to get a replacement just for the broken carafe, and not needing to buy a whole new French Press.

It's nice to know I can replace the most delicate part ...
I shattered the original carafe when I accidentally tipped my french press over one day. I thought for sure I'd have to buy a whole new press, but luckily someone mentioned I could buy just the glass! The new glass insert must be just slightly bigger than the original as it stuck while trying to put it into the holder and the actual press isn't snug on the inside, which means I get some grinds in my coffee. But since I didn't have to replace the whole unit, I've made it work. It's nice to know I can replace the most delicate part of my morning routine so easily. :)

Carafe/beaker is perfect glass and a comfortable fit
Like many others who are ordering or have purchased the Bodum Spare Glass Carafe for French Press Coffee Maker, 3-Cup, 0.35-Liter, 12-Ounce (3-Cup in Bodum world is NOT 3 Starbucks size cups or mugs), my purchase was to replace the glass which I broke into many little shards and pieces. I waited several weeks before breaking down and buying another and I can act as encouragement for getting one if you have the housing and no carafe. I received a genuine Bodum replacement inside a box which fit smoothly into my French press. I will also add that I purchased a "used" product from Amazon Warehouse and I couldn't be happier by saving a little money, too. The packaging contains a recommendation that if the fit is tight, one should soak the glass in hot water to aid in its fit. I found that by not rinsing the soap from the carafe after initially washing it, it slid in with ease. I then rinsed the entire French press. I would not hesitate to replace my filter screen when the time comes because this little press is wonderful for coffee and tea leaves, it's easy to clean, and I've found it to be much appreciated, especially when I ran out of Chemex paper filters for my drip carafe. With these two coffee systems, I'm all set any time the power goes out and my neighbors know they can always receive a tasty warm beverage in my home even if we enjoy it by candle or flashlight.

Worth the Price
I was purchasing a slightly cheaper carafe, and I would accidentally break it every few months. After going through a handful of those, I tried this brand. The durability is noticeably better. I finally broke the first one after two years and immediately purchased another of this brand. Would recommend.

Not cheap, but there is a reason
I have a small french press that I didn't use for years because the glass was cracked. I kept going back and forth between just replacing the whole thing or replacing the glass. Well I decided to finally just get a new carafe. A lot of the reviews for this criticize the prices which admittedly is close to the price of replacing the entire thing. having said that, the glass is probably the most expensive part. If you look at this glass compared to some of the other glassware in your kitchen the color is a bit different and there is a reason for that. This uses borosilicate glass (like original pyrex) and not tempered soda glass. This allows you to put a very hot liquid into it without the glass shattering. This also makes it much more expensive.
