Product Description A brother is sent to fight in Afghanistan while his black-sheep brother becomes caretaker to his wife and child. .com Screenwriter David Benioff (The 25th Hour) didn't have to do much to relocate Brothers from Denmark to America. The story remains the same: Captain Sam Cahill (Tobey Maguire) loves his family, but he's equally devoted to his career. Just as his ne'er-do-well brother, Tommy (Jake Gyllenhaal), exits prison, where he did time for robbery, the Marines deploy Sam to Afghanistan. Tommy starts looking in on his wary sister-in-law, Grace (Natalie Portman), but then Sam's helicopter crashes in the mountains, and the military informs Grace that her husband has died. Unbeknownst to the Cahill clan, the Taliban has taken Sam hostage and tortures him to elicit information. Sam resists, but his colleague caves, leading to an unthinkable act. Back in New Mexico, Grace and Tommy grow closer, stopping just short of a full-blown affair (in Susanne Bier's original, they take the plunge). Even Tommy's disapproving Vietnam vet father, Hank (Sam Shepard), sees his son in a new light after Tommy renovates Grace's kitchen. But when Sam is rescued by his company, he returns a broken man and is convinced that his wife has fallen in love with his brother. Even his daughters are afraid of him (Bailee Madison impresses as the eldest). As in Bier's film, Jim Sheridan (In America) elevates redemption and forgiveness over tragedy and loss, and his well-meaning remake gets off to a solid start, but it loses steam by the end. Brothers offers a compelling scenario, but the telling is too overstated to capture the full heartbreak of the situation. --Kathleen C. FennessyStills from Brothers (Click for larger image)

Finally Found this Movie!
I’m surprised older movies like this are still available in new condition! I bought this bc I didn’t want to buy ANOTHER streaming service. Arrived perfectly, still wrapped up and played fine. Movie itself was a great watch too, just wish it was longer. Also, wanted to note that the price was a steal!

What this drama is great at is exploring the aftermath of war on relationships, highlighting the challenges faced by soldiers reintegrating into civilian life. Good movie but just get it online tbh
Honestly, I'd say go buy the thing online. If you love movies and are a collector go for it. My case came a little bit broken. The clippy thingies on the case were okay, like the top clicker thing worked but the bottom was broken.

Important Lessons on Mental Health
Brothers is definitely a very good movie. It's realistic, raw, emotional and dramatic. The music is perfect, the acting phenomenal, and everything about it rings honest and true. This film teaches you that it doesn't matter if you're a soldier or a teacher or a child. You're a human being and trauma can affect you in extreme and painful ways, and you're usually not the only one to feel the effects of it. War is brutal, mental illness is brutal, and memories can bring you tears and anger at any moment. When all you have is family or friends, hold on to them and let them in. Just because those people were not with you during your trauma doesn't mean they can't support you and offer you comfort in your time of need. Shutting up and shutting everyone out is often the worst thing you can do. It's alright; you can get through this, just as you will get through other bad times in the future. If you feel fear, then it means you're taking a chance and that is the only real way to start healing.Brothers is a beautiful film and I couldn't take my eyes off it. I love Natalie Portman in this, and the actor who plays her daughter Lucy (Bailee Madison), is fantastic. I just saw her as a teenager in the horror movie Strangers: Prey at Night. Anyway, this is a dramatic movie I believe many people can relate to. I've never fought in the war but I can still relate and you might too. Great movie, absolutely worth a watch or two.

Great insight on the issue. Harsh but it is reality.
First off, acting was one point by all actors/actresses, props to all. Secondly if you're watching only for story and wanna get all nitpicky on how the cast performs, then you're watching the wrong movie. This movie is to show and bring awareness to our daily lives about vets who are suffering PTSD from war.At first I was a little frustrated at the fact that no one wanted to deny or object what Isabelle said at the birthday party, especially Tommy and Grace. But then I realize, in reality it would probably come to a shock to everyone if a little girl began shouting those statements even if they weren't true. And it doesn't help that, that one person is suffering from something like PTSD, and everyone except the new girl knew that already. If you were any of the other two(Grace and Tommy) denying any of what a little girl just yelled at to her dad who is suffering PTSD in the heat of the moment could cause him more harm than help him.Yeah honestly Tommy could've just admitted that he kissed Grace and said it was a mistake earlier, but that was his big mistake and his weakness. Grace was up front and honest, but Sam was too far gone already.Harsh reality, sometimes you wanna try and help others but it could just do them more harm. At times you just gotta let people mourn and let it all out.
