Jinnah: Creator of Pakistan

A warm account of a cold man
Mountbatten, last Viceroy of India, is said to have commented after meeting Mr Jinnah in 1947, "My God, he was cold!".Certainly Jinnah was considered by many who dealt with him to be aloof and unemotional.Bolitho wrote this biography in 1954, just five years after Jinnah's death, building his narrative from interviews with some 200 people who knew Jinnah. There is little on Jinnah's life before he travelled to London in 1892 to study for the Bar, but his legal and political careers are extensively covered, with excerpts from his letters and speeches. Perhaps the only surprising event in his life was his marriage to a Parsi girl of 18 when he was 42; the marriage ended when she died, ten years later.Male contemporaries speak of his directness and integrity, while several ladies, including the poet Sarojini Naidu, comment on his quiet charm and sense of humour. In all, this is a comprehensive and sympathetic account of an important figure.

Masterly written
This biography is a joy to read. Published in 1954 my copy is a 1964 reprint which I bought from Verandah Books UK , booksellers specialising in the Indian Sub- Continent .Bolitho writes very well. His command of the original sources is superb. He took 2 years to write. Interviewed some 200 people who knew Jinnah. ( p ix ). His choice of quotations is exquisite and illuminates well the clear legal mind of Jinnah. Jinnah is not a man into flowery language. ( p 13 ). His language is more English than Urdu. To him, "Failure is a word unknown to me ." Quote - unquote. His oral exchanges with judges are legendary. ( p17 to 21).Highly recommended to read besides the biography by Stanley Wolpert.

Best Book to read about a leader
I read about Muhammad Ali Jinnah's life a lot but in this book you will see very interesting stories and overall Jinnah has all abilities which the great leader should have.If Jinnah was in this era with internet and social media era, his voice could be hear by the entire world and the muslims wont be so suffer as they are now.
