SKS Germany U-Stay Kit for Velo 65 Fender

This kit is works as described and includes a good set of spacers and M5 bolts, stay mount accessories... to ensure it attaches to your bike. I was intending for my Velo 65's to be more permanent and am pleased this kit is well fashioned for the cause.

Works well with my 26" hybrid tires. It was a good thing I didn't wait too much longer to buy these, as the clip inside the back fender was beginning to wear down from rubbing against the tire. Getting the nut far enough into the plastic for the bolt to catch was tough. You'll need a couple hard, flat surfaces to push it against to help. I used the longer bar for the back and didn't need to adjust the length; I just put the bar all the way in the plastic "foot" that attaches to the frame. If you have mountain bike tires, you'll probably end up sliding the bar out a bit so there's more room in between the fender and the tire. I used the shorter bar on the front (though it wasn't really necessary since the front fender does not flop around), and it was just barely long enough. In retrospect, I would have had some more wiggle room if I attached the shorter bar to the back and longer one to the front. Both fenders feel solid now.

Works perfectly, but it should have been included with the fenders. Even if you have to increase the price… the fenders are not structurally stable enough for use without these stays. They sell the metal ones with the stays, so they should include them with the plastic fenders as well.

Heavy duty metal wire braces.

I was riding on the road and felt a huge jolt. When I stopped I noticed that the metal arms were gone and that half of the plastic brackets were broken and gone too. I think what happened is that the arms came off the weak clip on the fender, grabbed onto my mountain bike tire and got ripped out and thrown out. Pretty dangerous and disappointing... I'm going to have to buy a new one and glue the connection between the metal arm and the fender, somehow.

What I received is not the item in the picture. If I received the item in the picture, I think I could get the floppy fenders (SKS Velo 65 Trekking Front and Rear Snap-on Fender Set 26/29-inch) to work for my 29 inch mountain bike. But I am not sure, since they sent something different. There is no instructions, just some strangely shaped fender stays (see photo) that that have little or nothing to do with the fenders that I bought. If I can't get these fenders to keep from flopping around, I will have to return those also. It's a shame because it's hard to find a fender that fits a 29 inch mountain bike.

These keep the Velo 65 fenders from slapping around in rough terrain quite nicely. Depending on the install, they might run a little long, but with the way they mount to the fork/frame, it's easy enough to trim to fit, bend to suit, and adjust in the fittings without having to be too precise with the cuts.
