Solo Cake/Pastry Filling Raspberry, 12 oz X 2 cans

Are the berries whole?

Is this a jelly-like consistency? I want it to later in-between two cakes but don't want to buy a two pound bag. Is this similar?

I opened a can and tasted before using in a cake. It had absolutely no taste of raspberry or sweetness. Does it need preparation??
