Their best studio album!
I realize that it may be almost cliché to make a statement that The Queen Is Dead is the best album by The Smiths, a bit like saying that Led Zeppelin IV is the best album by Led Zeppelin. The key difference being, that you could also reasonably argue that IV is Zeppelin’s second, or even third best album. The equivalent argument about The Queen Is Dead, if it could even be started, wouldn’t survive long…For starters, as hard as it is to believe, The Smiths only released four studio albums. Also, the title track to their previous album, Meat Is Murder, is, being honest, kind of a drag, speaking as a huge fan of probably literally every other song that they ever recorded. Strangeways, though brilliant, leans a bit too heavily on the pop side of the band. Their self-titled debut, though legendary for good reason, simply doesn’t possess anything quite as magical as the best songs on TQID.The Queen Is Dead has the perfect amount of everything that The Smiths did incredibly well, even compared to most, if not all, of their best peers. It’s an amazing album, and I’m still genuinely shocked that it took me until I was twenty-seven years old to discover this album, and this band, despite being a fan of virtually every great similar band I can think of, for over a decade! If you enjoy The Queen Is Dead as much as I do, might I suggest that you consider picking up the first Smiths compilation, Hatful Of Hollow, as, like TQID, it is also seemingly flawless, with no overlapping songs!

Excellent album.
If they had just bothered to package this record appropriately for shipping - like in a box or even cardboard mailer, I would have given this 5 stars. Great album. But it was shipped in a plastic bag mailer. Two of the corners on the album arrived pretty banged up. Luckily the record itself wasn’t damaged.

Item arrived packaged nicely. No issues with cover or vinyl. Vinyl plays great. It's the Smiths, nothing else to say.

Great album poor pressing
The music is superb.Sadly, the pressing quality isn't.Even after machine cleaning the disc several times, there is still noticeable crackle and noise.I had this issue with another Smiths reissue I purchased recently.Buying new vinyl records has become something of a lottery, some pressings sound fine, whilst others are dull/ flat sounding or noisy. If the second hand value for originals wasn't so outrageous, I would be more than happy to buy those. The quality control of new vinyl simply has to improve.

Records skipping and creases all over the jacket
First of all, the courier left this outside flat on the ground all day and marked the package 'handed to resident' leading me to believe it was given to one of my family members so I didn't question its whereabouts. This was not the case, it was sat outside with another package (quite heavy!) on top of it.Then I notice the jacket has creases on the corners so it's obviously been pinched recklessly by the warehouse guys and courier in transit.I play it from the beginning; 'The Queen is Dead' played perfectly. 'Frankly Mr Shankly' not so much, skipping and jumping to the point I feared for my needle.Return was easy though, and it is a stunning album, so I won't discredit that.

Stunning pressing of a gorgeous album.
I love this album, and this pressing doesn’t disappoint. Great open sound, and just the exact type of sound and vibe that you could hope for. In some tracks, I personally felt that the vocals were overly drowned out by the music - otherwise, this pressing is a pure delight.

Disappointed
Just out the sleeve and cleaned with vinyl cleaner,as I do with every purchase. Didn't even get to here the first track as is skipped back and forth, then jumped into the queen is dead and stuck on the intro. My second attempt with this album. I'm a regular vinyl purchaser from Amazon but I'm returning far too much these days.. seriously hacked off!!!!

The album that never goes out
I will start by saying that before I heard this album, I did not like The Smiths. They didn't fit into the heavy metal scene which I enjoy but also seemed rather 'self indulgent' to me..perhaps that was just Morrissey. But after hearing 'The Queen is Dead' for the first time, my life was changed completely. And for the better. Without this band ( and especially this album) I wouldn't be the person (vegetarian, naturally, thanks to the brilliant 'Meat is Murder') that I am today.I'm 17, so I was never alive while The Smiths were actually together, however this album is an absolute MASTERPIECE!! Every single track feels like a classic- from the oddly amusing 'Take Me Back to Dear Old Blighty' which segues into the fantastic drum intro of the title track..and my word, WHAT A TITLE TRACK. 'The Queen is Dead' really sets the mood for what's to come from the rest of the album, with incredible guitar from Johnny Marr and plenty of humour (yet naturally with a touch of sadness) from Morrissey's lyrics. I don't think Morrissey ever sounded better on a record than he does on 'The Queen is Dead'.Funny tracks like 'Frankly Mr Shankly' and 'Vicar in a Tutu'...Pure lyrical wit on 'Cemetery Gates' and 'The Boy With The Thorn in His Side' and of course, the wonderful 'There is A Light and it Never Goes Out'...As well as my personal fave 'Bigmouth Strikes Again' all help to make this a record you simply cannot forget. Of course...all the other songs on this album aren't just filler for the hits, every piece seems to be in the right place on the album, changing the mood but with overall very positive results. The album can make you laugh and make you weep...but it is definitely something I recommend everybody experience in their life. 'The Queen is Dead' is a perfect album...and I don't say that about many albums. The vinyl edition is also very nice as the artwork is bigger and inside the gatefold has the lyrics printed, with a nice record sleeve too. Cannot recommend it enough, buy it right now!
