API test kits have switched over to using plastic vials. While less breakable, the plastic ones become stained if you dont promptly clean them out thoroughly. Also the plastic 5mm lines are often difficult to see. These glass tubes are the actual API tubes with the 5 mm fill lines and very secure caps. They are far easier to clean out than the plastic ones and if capped are less likely to spill. Now sure youll occassionally drop one and break it. But with this set you'll have plenty to replace broken ones and do as many tests as you want to compare before and after readings. I got a tube holder here on Amazon that also allows me to have several sets of the 7 tests I do displayed without risk of dropping them or knocking the off tables. Really is well worth having these if you do the API water testing much.

They're exactly what I wanted (the api test kits no longer come with glass test tubes, but with little plastic tubes that are harder to read because they're kind of foggy rather than clear and because they eventually stain). This was the most economical way to get glass tubes, and I'll probably have enough to last me the rest of my life, even if I were to break quite a few, lol. HOWEVER, the packaging leaves a lot to be desired. The tubes are in a thin paperboard box and that is tossed into a cardboard shipping box. Nothing is wrapped or protected at all. I'm honestly quite surprised none arrived broken.

You can see a mix of the glass tubes with caps in the test tube rack along with the plastic tubes that came with the original purchase of the API Test kit. The glass tubes fit very nicely in the rack . I'm glad I bought the glass replacement tubes. I also feel better using glass tubes and not worrying if the plastic tubes are absorbing any chemicals etc. I'm amazed they arrived unbroken. No protective package but obviously it wasn't needed.

They are standard thinwall flat bottomed round 5 ml glass test tubes with plastic cap, that you find in the API test kits. If you've lost or broken a few in your test kits, or have more than one system to test, it's nicer to have extras. Only fault is the box is very thin flimsy postersheet type cardboard, and in Amazon fulfillment, the other contents of the box shifted and smashed a few. I didn't deem it bad enough to go through return and replacement but do be warned, the boxful as is is pretty fragile, so if you need a full 24 you might end up a few short with one box. They will also work with the Tetra tests, anything that needs a 5 ml water sample, they will work.

The API freshwater testing kit is wonderful. It is just the tubes tend to break if your are not careful. One broke one my son and one on me. Thus I ordered more test tubes. So far these seem to be working out great. The 5 ml marking is nice to have on the tube. Noticed some of the tubes sit a little snug in the API test kit area that the tubes are stored in vertically. Overall nice to have spares on hand.

My son accidentally broke two of the glass test tubes that came with the ammonia and pH test kits. Just when I needed it most, I had nothing. The pandemic made it worse, where Petco and PetSmart were always out of stock. So, I made sure that I ordered a set of 24 in case of more accidents. The glass is not that thick but sheer so that you can make a good color reading which is important. I'm skeptical about using the plastic bottles because I'm not sure how clear they would be to make a good reading. Plus, I prefer glass for the share visibility. I wish the glass was more durable though, because the cleanup SAR another issue, tiny glass pieces can be missed and end up in your Barefoot. Ouch! Overall: good for sheer visibility color check. Value: could be cheaper as glass always needs to be replaced when broken.

All vials arrived in perfect condition! I got these to replace the tubes I had because I broke all four of mine accidentally. The only complaint is the price I wish it was a bit cheaper. Overall this is a decent product.
