An excellent remaster, for an excellent album
Kate Bush's ten album discography, is filled with enchanting, and artistic music - "The Red Shoes" is no exception. Sadly of the years, "The Red Shoes" has faced harsh criticism from some fans and critiques. Many of the complaints are geared toward Kate's change in style for this album; some complained the album was too "simple", and too "pop". Upon my first listen to infamous album, I found it too be emotionally involving, beautiful work of art. Songs such as "And So Is Love", & "You're the One" though heartbreaking, are still addictive. "The Red Shoes" also manages to display a more, "upbeat" side, with "Rubberband Girl" and "Eat the Music", the lead singles from the album (depending on region). Though these songs have a "fun" atmosphere (this is the word Bush to describe "Rubberband. . ." in an interview), they still carry strong meanings and messages; trying to be able to "bounce back" from life's troubling situations, and to "split him upon" with "devotion" respectively. The original 1993 release of "The Red Shoes" was recorded and mastered through digital means. The advent of "digitally" recorded music, according to Bush, promised a "lack of tape hiss" and "clarity". Sadly this process did not deliver pleasing results; the album was chided for having a "shrill" and "cold" quality. However, this new version of the "The Red Shoes" solves these supposed problems; using the the analogue backups of the album, the "shrillness" has been replaced with a much warmer, and open atmosphere. This "remaster", has truly perfected "The Red Shoes", affirming it's place as one of the greatest albums of the '90s, as well as one of Bush's most emotionally touching works of art."I always felt the sound of the original version of 'The Red Shoes' was a little edgy due to the digital equipment we were using at the time. Everyone was under pressure back then to work in the digital domain as it promised so much with lack of tape his and its supposed clarity... I remained a devoted lover of analogue and was delighted to recently come across the back up mixes of this album on 1/2" analogue tape. I hope you will enjoy this truly remastered version."-Kate Bush, describing the remaster.

This is a very good cd by Kate Bush
This is a very good cd by Kate Bush. I mainly bought this cd for her collaboration with Prince. I have never heard any of her music before and was pleasantly surprised at how good of an artist she is. The sound quality is very good and the Delivery service was amazing excellent. Thankyou

The Latest of Kate's great outputs
I hesitated to buy this Album because of the not so great reviews on Amazon. However I thought this was among Kate Bush's strongest efforts. I also like the collaborations with the music industries' finest, including: Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, and Prince. All the songs were solid and had energy. I thought "Why Should I Love You" to be the standout track. It's the album closer and it features Princes' magic touch and great backup vocals. I love the song's message and Princes' great organ-synth melody. I can't say enough about this set of songs but I also enjoyed the tracks "Eat the Music" (another song title that I instantly loved), and "The song of Solomon". I highly recommend this Album by anyone who likes Kate Bush's work.

This is the version of "The Red Shoes" you want!
This is the remastered version of the album "The Red Shoes." The original release was the only Kate Bush album to be released with digital mastering, which the artist later regretted -- and with very good reason. The album's sound was too crisp and created a disconnective edge between the voice and the music, impeding the album's atmosphere. It wasn't terrible by any means, but it certainly was jarring after hearing the warmth of her previous (wonderful) albums "Hounds of Love" and The Sensual World."Bush has rectified this problem, not with a further digitally remastered version but rather with the ORIGINAL analog-mastered backups! The result is a sound that is quite a bit more layered and rich-sounding (think "The Sesual World") than the previous version. If you enjoy "The Red Shoes," you will want this release. It makes a very good album GREAT.Also of note: The inserts and booklet with this version differ from the original release, including a note about why she released this new edition.)

Good, not her best
Though there are a few standout great songs on this album ("Moments of Pleasure," "And So is Love," "The Song of Solomon," "Why Should I Love You," "You're the One"), there are a few that really bring it down to just pretty good.

Brilliant, of course
Brilliant, of course. Favourite tracks vary from day to day, but Nigel Kennedy playing violin over Kate's distinctive guitar playing (Big Stripey Lie) is the current one. Followed up with one of the best Prince songs he never wrote.

One of Kate's most personal albums. Grows and Grows on you
To be honest I bought the album on the strength of absolutely loving 'moments of pleasure'. On the first few listens you're taken aback on how erractic the album sounds. Switching from 'poppy' almost teenage songs such as 'rubberband girl' to the irish jig sounding 'the red shoes' on to the seriously sad and heart felt 'you're the one' its almost a head spin. That said it is one of Kate's most personal albums with her precious work being mainly about characters in books or some other groups of or people who have suffered in some way. as she herself admits she finds the lives of others more interesting than her own. However this album was produced at a time when Kate's mother (who happened to be a professional irish dancer) had just died hence 'the red shoes'. She had also split with her long term partner Del Palmer. You're the one is definitely an ode to him. So as you can imagine Kate was going through a time of mixed and difficult emotions and the album reflects this beautifully. She also collaborates heavily with Prince on the album which is a real treat. Listen out for 'why should I love you' his backing vocals are clear. So I would say don't cast it aside or compare to the' hounds of love' which many believe to be her best work give it some time and you will grow to love it

A masterpiece.
This is one of my favourite Kate Bush albums (alongside Aerial). The quality and clarity of her voice on this album is unsurpassed. Kate went through a very difficult period in her life around the time of the making of The Red Shoes and she didn't have either the energy or the will to overproduce this album (as she has done with some of her other works). Because of that, there is a rawness and vulnerability to it that is very moving. She later went back and reworked some of the tracks (The Director's Cut) and completely ruined them in my opinion (particularly Rubberband Girl). This album has often been criticised by music journalists and I think even Kate herself is not overly fond of it (but I suspect that that is because it is so honest and so emotionally revealing). But, ignore all you've heard, this is a masterpiece.

The work of an true Artist.
This is easily my favourite Kate Bush Album and I came to it very late....a month ago in fact! Her voice is so much more expressive in its lower notes and it was evidently deeply felt. I am not really so keen on some of her popular hits although I can see their quality but this and The Sensual World seem to me to be the work of a true artist. And... because noone else seems to have mentioned it I love most of all 'It must be love' ...kept on playing it and when the opening bars begin always give me a shiver. But all the tracks are wonderful with the weakest being Rubberband Girl. I personally think that this version of 'Moments of Pleasure' is stronger than her own revised version in Director's Cut which misses out to me a vital couple of lines. I realize I am listening to the remastered version which is maybe very important from other reviewers comments.

Magnificent, Masterpiece from Kate
I must admit initially that I was sceptical about buying this CD,(I have most of kate's CD's) but after reading reviews was not sure I would enjoy it. I thought what the heck I love the title and the picture so I bought it.I played it constantly in my car CD and got to know the songs so well, that I now class this album as my favourite. Song of Solomon is a masterpiece, Lily another, Red shoes another and some of Kate's imagery being 'on top of the angel's shoulders' is just superb. There are so many fantastic tracks on this CD I would highly recommend it. It seems so fresh that it hardly seems possible it was recorded 10 or so years ago.I would agree with an earlier reviewer that you do have to listen to the CD for a few times but once you do there is no going back. Many thanks Kate for a superb, very under-rated Red Shoes!!!!

Kate's Last Sting Album
Her last release before a long break showed her intensity as an artist not waning. Song of Solomon and Constellation of the Heart are highlights of her major label farewell.

This was a bit of a punt for me, I have very few of Kate's discs, so it is a revelation. Firstly the recording is totally beautiful. It comes from the analogue tape made at the time and rediscovered , and used by Kate for this director's cut. It is just beautiful. Digital was all the rage at the time, just goes to show, some old ways are better. I wonder if I should get the vinyl as well.......I shan't go through the tracks describing them, you should be able to listen to them elsewhere and make up your own feebles. This goes well in lossless form for audiophiles, real treat.Have a bash at it!

UNDERRATED GEM - 5 STARS
Another Kate Bush album that gets a bad press. It has a different feel to most of her other albums, it sounds more conventional, like a few other bands from the late 80's have been asked to play on the record. This may be why a lot of the fans seem to prefer her other albums. What this cannot do however is hide the quality of KT's lyrics or her fantastic voice. The stand-out tracks for me are Moments of Pleasure, You're the One and the sublime And So is Love there are another half a dozen cracking songs on here as well. Unfortunately the song where she collaborated with Prince (Why Should i Love You) is probably as bad as i had heard it was. Although this is the only bad point in an otherwise great album. BUY THIS!!!!!

I have a catalogue of Kate Bush albums and found that this one was an amalgamation of clever lyrics and good music. As pothers have intimated this may be one of her better albums and it is hard to pull tracks off of the cd to enjoy as they are all so dgood, Although the title track, rubberband girl and moments of pleasure make you stop and reflect...
