Camco 42197 Fold-Away Grab Handle (Short - Black)

The original grab handle on my camper was broken by a renter, and I needed a fast solution. This Camco 18-inch model was the answer. It's a direct replacement, so swapping out the old one for the new one was super easy—I had it done in minutes. It functions just as it should, offering a secure hold. If you're buying one of these, you probably already know that the mechanism can rust to the point where the spring and screw seize up.

The stock handle was terrible, only works when getting in the RV, not when leaving the RV. This fold-away handle solves that issue. Especially for kids. Install is easy, nerve racking of course since you have to drill into the RV. Used a stud finder on the inside of the RV to make sure you are actually drilling into wood and not just the siding. Also, make sure you put silicone or sealant in the holes and on the screws when you install it. Other than that, no issues and works great. Also, there was a video on youtube showing that if you are inside the RV and someone walks by and closes the handle, it would technically push open from the inside. Just something I found that might be useful for someone's curiosity.

We've got a 17' Hybrid camper and tradition handles are just too big. This is the perfect size for a smaller unit. Easy to install, easier to fold up/open up, and use.

For my travel trailer, it was a direct replacement. I expect it to provide the same level of performance. In hindsight, after taking apart the broken grab rail, it may have repairable. It's easy to install, and fit into the previous grab rail screw holes (applying sillycon caulking, 30 minutes(?)).
