no it doesn't leak if closed properly

They advertise six panels to add variety to the game.. how are these panels affixed and how do they stay in place?

They slide onto the back of the game and are held in place in the groove it slides in

Does the water need to be distilled? Does it need to be dumped out after awhile? Can the balls come out to be cleaned?

No. Just plain water. Balls don’t come out. We change the water now and then or the kids dump it out.
