When we bought this on Amazon , there were all kinds of descriptions of size and length of extensions in detail do best go back and read description again

I think not. They extend flush with the mounting surface.

Q: The total length of the desk I'm needing this for is 72" (or 6 feet). The drop leaf is only 24" (2 feet) of that. Would this fit my project?

I don’t know the answer. I used 4 of these supports for a 72” drop leaf.

Q: What is the thickness of the hinge? i.e. how proud is it of the inside surface of the cabinet to whichh it is mounted?
