This is a serious bit of hardware, completely rigid aluminum base gives this keyboard the feel of quality. It has heft despite its compact size. Everything about it from the wood end caps, the base and feet to the incredible feel of the mag switches makes this keyboard something a cut above most others. The adjustable rgb lighting can be toned down to a nice subtle light for night work. Connecting usb-c wired, 2.4ghz WiFi and 3 device Bluetooth connections make switching devices almost instant. The features are extensive for gamers- much more than I could get into-but analog mode, adjustable trigger point, extensive key remapping are just a few. I personally like the 96% size as a numpad is non-optional for me and the compressed size more closely matches my style of working off laptop keyboards, so it is a good fit and takes up less desk room that a full sized board, Leaving room for my trackball and other items comfortably. The other major bonus to its compact size is it fits my travel bag for my gear-it is heavy for a keyboard, but I travel with a 17” laptop, trackball, spare mouse, 300 watt power brick, and all sorts of other bits and this keyboard tucks into a pocket perfectly leaving it protected, tidy and convenient to bring. The mag keys are tactile and slightly louder than I like, but not clattering and with the adjustable trip point via the config software you can adjust for a heavy or light typing style and even set individual keys differently so you can tune out inadvertent hits or make some keys need a feather touch. There are so many tuning and custom options that it’s well beyond a review scope to touch them all and some that really are for the hardcore gamers mostly, but you can make this your own with the tuning, swappable key caps and clever remapping. Sometimes you buy a product after lots of debate and researching the options, and can still be pleasantly surprised by how nice it is-and how it exceeds your expectations every time you use it. That is this keyboard for me. Spectacular product.

My old mechanical was too loud to game while my wife and baby were sleeping. Sound was a huge factor and I took a leap on this one. Videos I watched it sounded pretty loud but it is almost dead silent!! The features are perfect, rapid trigger is a game changer and the A D key instant strafe is a game changer for FPS games. You can quick peak corners flawlessly. This is the best gaming purchase I have made, maybe ever. I used to have a Corsair K70 and typing on that sounded like someone was throwing handfuls of marbles down concrete stairs. The keys are hot swappable, the key caps on the special edition have a nice soft rounded feel which I love over my old sharp corner ones that dig into your fingers. Key actuation can be anywhere from just looking at the key and it triggers, down to a full bottom out key press. You can make it so the key instantly stops triggering the moment the key moves vertically which is great for movement keys but I had to adjust it for the shift and space bar keys since I found out my pinky lifts ever so slightly when sprinting in game and I kept canceling my sprint on accident. If you are thinking about buying this keyboard, do it! Heck even buy it if you aren't considering it. I type an average of 90WPM and it took a second to get used to this over my trash prior board but now I can type faster and with less errors since I don't have to press the key all the way down and just literally just lightly tap the keys to type. There is near infinite combos of sensitivity and features. The RGB shine through on the letters on the keys is pretty dim, it's more of a backlit keyboard than light up keycaps but I'm sure you could get different caps to change that if you wanted to. Personally I don't look at the keys often and just leave back light off but to each their own. Build quality is phenomenal, the weight is substantial and feels quality but not heavy, and the online web browser software had me worried but it actually works perfectly. Heck it works 100% better than my Corsair keyboards installed ICUE software could ever dream of. The software changes things instantly and doesn't need to be saved after every change, just open it, adjust, and close chrome. I couldn't imagine a better keyboard and now I don't need to. 100/100 no notes

I have put plenty of mechanical keyboards through their paces over the years, but the Keychron K4 HE is a distinct beast that handles both standard data crunching and competitive gaming without skipping a beat. The 96% layout is a lifesaver if y'all absolutely need a dedicated number pad but want to salvage some premium desk space. It compresses a near full-sized setup into a tight, neat footprint. Just remember that there is ZERO dead space between the alphanumeric keys and the numpad, so muscle memory takes a few days to adjust to avoid hitting the wrong border keys. My unit is the version with the natural rosewood accent plates attached to the sides, and it looks incredibly sharp. It gives a sophisticated, grown-up look that COMPLETELY ditches the typical garish gamer aesthetic. Physically, the board feels like an absolute tank. It features a rigid aluminum top frame paired with an ABS plastic bottom case, resulting in zero creaking or flex even when you are heavy-handed. It utilizes a traditional tray-mount design, which does mean the typing experience feels a bit stiff under the fingers compared to trendy gasket-mounted boards, but Keychron completely saved it with the internal acoustics. They layered this thing with EVA sound-absorbing foam, EPDM foam, and a silicone pad. This combination entirely chokes out hollow case pinging, giving the pre-lubed Gateron double-rail magnetic switches a deep, satisfyingly creamy sound right out of the box. The keycaps on this wood-trimmed version are solid double-shot PBT with an OSA profile, meaning they feel thick and textured, though the legends themselves are opaque. The RGB backlighting seeps out cleanly from under the caps rather than shining directly through the letters, which looks elegant but might be tough to read in a pitch-black room. The magnetic Hall Effect switches are the true highlight, especially when you pair them with the web-based Keychron Launcher software. I love that I do not have to download bloated background apps that eat up system resources. You just plug in, pull up a web browser, and tweak settings directly on the onboard ARM cortex chip. You can adjust the actuation point for EVERY SINGLE KEY on a granular level anywhere from an ultra-sensitive 0.2 mm down to 3.8 mm. For competitive shooters, enabling Rapid Trigger completely changes the game because the key resets the exact millisecond your finger begins to lift, allowing for near-instantaneous counter-strafing. The switches are rated at a 40g initial force and bottom out around 60g. This gives them a slightly firmer, more deliberate linear press than mushier magnetic boards I have tested, which is brilliant for preventing accidental inputs while typing out long reports. Wireless connectivity is seamless. You get a low-latency 2.4 GHz dongle with a full 1000 Hz polling rate, Bluetooth 5.2 that pairs with up to three different devices, and a standard wired USB-C mode. Swapping between a Mac and a Windows PC is as easy as flipping a physical toggle on the back. It carries a heavy enough footprint to stay anchored right where you put it on your desk. If you want a keyboard that looks like high-end furniture but packs top-tier gaming performance and robust QMK hardware programming, this thing hits the target perfectly.

I've been using mechanical keyboards for many years now. Started with a Cherry Blue, moved to a Cherry Red, and finally I've landed on this Keychron K4 HE model. I have to say, I'm never looking back. It has the best typing feel of any keyboard I've ever used, and it's not close. I'm no professional reviewer, but compared to the Cherry keyboards I've used, this feels like typing on clouds. It's quieter than both the Blue and the Red i've used in the past, and has a softer feel to it as well. The keyboard seems to be very premium quality for the price, I've used keyboards that cost over double this one that weren't anywhere close to this nice. The software being a website is super cool, to be honest. Not having some program running in the background all the time is a huge plus in my eyes. The keyboard came with MacOS buttons installed, but I swapped them for the Windows buttons pretty easily. it comes with a keypuller so it's easy. Honestly this is a 10/10 keyboard in my eyes. I can type all day with it and my finger tips don't hurt the same way it did with the Cherry Reds, and it's so much more quiet compared to Cherry Blues.
