A great resource
I am still working my way through this book. But I've always found Nancy Zieman books to be the best instructions and easy to understand. It's especially hard to find good books on sewing techniques, most books are project based. This is a good resource for the sewist's bookshelf.

Great for newbies!
Newbie sewist here! I can find a quilting class anywhere, but try finding a garment making class in person and you are out of luck! When I discovered Nancy Zieman's series of books, I purchased all of them. They are written in simple and straight forward terms. It's easy to follow along and understand how to assemble a garment. I've mastered graining the fabric, cutting out the pattern, but when it comes to assembly, it gets a bit tricky. Nancy's books are very helpful and I've referred to them many times to help me put my knit tops together. I find pattern instructions to be written for a more expert level. I really appreciate these books!

Great book
Love. This. Book. I ordered this after ordering the Collete Guide to Sewing Knits. Both are nice, and honestly the Collete book is prettier. But While visually pleasing is of course nice, it's the information and the way it is explained that make a good how to book. And Nancy certainly knows how to explain things in a very easy to understand way. There are a few things she mentions that I am glad I'd already read about as she does not go into detail, assuming you already know a few things about sewing in general. However her instructions are clear, concise and right on. After reading this I promptly ordered her other "with confidence" books and am looking forward to checking them out.My only complaint is that it does not explain how to easily sew a downturned neckline and there isn't a lot of information on sewing with velour. These are what I am struggling with now and can not find information anywhere. Also, there is some mention of using a coverstitch machine, but not a whole lot. It does give serger instructions along with sewing machine instructions, which is very helpful, but it would be nice if it included instructions with a coverstitch machine as well.So- nice, easy to understand and good drawingsWould like more info on sewing with velour, sewing with a coverstitch machine, and how to easily sew a turned down knit neckline.

Very Helpful
This book demystifies sewing with knits. I have always followed pattern instructions to the letter but in order to make knits without that '"I made it myself" look you need techniques that are different than those included in the pattern. Nancy gives directions for sewing both with a serger and without. The kindle version is friendly and easy to move round on after you bookmark it by reading through the first time

Great advice, just not enough
She's the queen of sewing, for many good reasons. This book is so well illustrated. Nancy knows her business and shows techniques and answers your difficult questions. However, I believe she is working with fairly stable knits. I am trying to sew a couple of types of velour that are very stretchy in both directions and her instructions here don't help much with those projects. Where do I find the guidebook for really stretchy knits? By the way, she has some great sewing videos on YouTube.

FRIENDS OF THE CHINO VALLEY PUBLIC LIBARY--MANK THANKS FROM A RETIRED PUBLIC LIBRARIAN
I am very happy with the book and the accurate description of the book's overall status. It is definitely "Like New". The Friends chapters of many public libraries are such an asset to public librarians and to the public for all the hard work they do to benefit our wonderful library system in the United States. As a retired librarian from New York State, I want you to know how grateful I am for people such as you. Thanks again for the wonderful book.

Sew Knits
I really wanted to learn new tips and tricks to help with my fear of sewing knits. This book has the same tips that you read on line all day long. I have not tried any of the tips because, after reviewing this book, I didn't have that urge to jump up and run to the sewing room. It just didn't give me that spark of inspiration that most craft books do. Nancy Zieman is known for her expertise and that is why I bought this book. Her extensive list of fabric types in chapter one will be very useful in choosing what type of fabric I should use for what garment. It will be handy to keep in my sewing library for quick reference.
