Altec Lansing inMotion IM310 Portable Speakers for iPod and MP3 Players Looking for good speakers for an MP3 Player?I have a Sony Walkman MP3 Player (NWZS545 here on Amazon) & a Creative MP3 Player. I wanted a good speaker system that would be portable and have relatively good sound. This is it! This operates on batteries or AC power. It was made for an IPOD so neither the Sony nor the Creative sits in the cradle created for the IPOD but this is not a problem for me. You will need to have a jack (not included) to connect the mp3 player to the speakers if you do not have an IPOD. The ac adapter is included. Batteries last approximately 3 hours for me but depends upon the volume. I use rechargeable batteries if I am not going to be near electrical power. There is a small storage compartment on the back for the ac adapter or extra batteries and jack connector. Remember, this speaker system will produce sound only as long as your MP3 player works. I have an ac adapter for my Sony and have sound all day long or whenever I want it. In other words, this system does not charge the Sony MP3 player. My Creative, for which I have no ac adapter, runs for 10-12 hours and then silence. Naturally, the sound cannot compare to a boom box but is very good. I set this at the top of the stairs on my table and turn the volume up (not all the way) and get good sound throughout my apartment (the volume of this unit can also be increased or decreased by the volume on your MP3). I think it is attractive for use in any room. This unit is approximately 11 1/2" long, 6" tall, & 2 1/2-3" wide. Not too large; not too small. This came in a timely manner and was packaged well.Cons: I was disappointed that the jack connector was not included with this package but you can go to any electronic store and get one. When setting up with ac adapters, the various cords can be a hassle. The small storage compartment on the back does not hold all of these at the same time. I would love to see them develop a bass boost for the speakers similar to that on a boom box. Maybe speakers are too small for this? I was greatly pleased that this will send sound throughout my apartment as so many mp3 speakers do not do that. Overall, I love it and would purchase it again. Right off the bat, I'm not the kind of guy who uses an external set of speakers. If I'm going to listen to music outside of the house, it's either going to be from my car or from my earbuds, that's about it. When I'm at home, I have my PC and my stereo (and a combination of the two). But life happened. My wife and I were expecting our first and we wanted music during our hospital stay, so the research into portable iPod speakers began.We knew what we wanted: a decent sounding set of portable speakers that had to be compatible with various iPods. It had to have an option for batteries (as well as AC power) and had to be able to charge an iPod. Oh, they had to be fairly inexpensive, under $100. Not too demanding, I'd say.After doing our reading, we finally decided on (and purchased) this Altec inMotion Compact set and I must say, for a inexpensive set of speakers, these little guys are great; color us impressed. The sound quality coming out of these little guys isn't the world's best but they are miles away from terrible. I would compare them to a mid-high range of PC speakers. At high volumes they can sound a bit hollow. Speaking of volume, these little guys can really produce. With the volume dial raised just a hair, the sound can easily fill a mid-sized room. While I wouldn't use these speakers for the main source of music for a house party, I would use them (and plan to) while at the beach or in the backyard.The inMotion Compact works great with all our iPod devices (a 4G iPod, 2G Nano, first & second generation iPhones). I was actually surprised to see that they also work with the various iPhone music apps (Pandora, Slacker, Sirius). However I do get that odd cell phone feedback when I use the speakers with my 1G iPhone. For those of you without an iPod, there is the optional AUX jack.Battery life? Pretty good I'd say. While I haven't officially timed it, I would venture a guess that the advertised specs are close, your results may vary. They also include a compartment for backup batteries (which was a nice selling point for us).All-in-all, these inMotion speakers are great; we are very happy with the purchase and definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a nice quality set of portable speakers.

A great iPod portableWe were looking for a portable speaker unit for our iPod nano and this product more than fills the bill for us. We use it mostly on our deck and the sound is beautiful. It has a rich and clear sound that is as good as the Bose radio system we have indoors. It looks good and adds to any décor. The speakers are large enough to do the job but not so big they stick out anywhere. Completely easy to set up and operate. It takes three AA batteries and comes with an AC adapter. When operating on the AC it also charges the iPod. Only two buttons to deal with on & off and a volume adjustment slide.Only thing we wonder about is why Amazon held the shipment up five days. We opt for Super Saver Shipping and Amazon held the package five days before putting it in the mail. Once the Postal Service received it, deliver was made within a day. It came from New Hampshire to our home in Connecticut.So, if you're looking for a good speaker system at a reasonable price, this is it.

Who would have thought it possible? A sound like you wouldn't believe, all produced by a beautifully designed, easy to use, compact, affordable unit. It's flat before the base is extended, meaning you can put it in a suitcase like a hardback book, or extend the base for immediate use anywhere you choose. Great for taking on vacation, use in any room of the house, or the deck! It operates on A/C power OR batteries. There is even handy built in battery storage for a full set of extra batteries!I could go on, but the main attribute of this speaker system is it's amazing sound. It's clear, and distortion free at any volume you choose. An amazing big, full sound from a system this size!I'm recommending it to my friends and family, and if I had a reason to own another one, I would definitely buy another!
