Q: Will it work on a finished guitar neck yjats been sitting in the closet?

This is NOT for the entire neck!! Only use on the fretboard. General rule, if it is Rosewood, Ebony, or other similar dark woods then it probably isn't finished. However Rickenbacker does finish their fretboards, usually Rosewood, If you look at a Rickenbacker picture you'll see it is very glossy and looks "Finished" whereas others don't. If the fretboard is Maple (light color wood), again you'll see a shiney finish on it. DO NOT use of Maple or finished woods. Again I repeat, this is for the fretboard not the entire neck. Hope this helps.

Great for all types of board especially ebony because it keep that dark color and great tone while making the board feel softer and smooth while playing

Your oil went rancid. It got bacteria in it or it is over three years old. It smells like lemons if fresh. Its organic oil so it can go rancid. That is why it smelled horrible. Throw it away and get some fresh F-One oil.

As long as its unfinished works just like it wood on rosewood.
