Smart, substantial flight watch with chronograph
Pagani Design PD-2720K Flight Chronograph Quartz WatchI hadn't heard of Pagani Design before and, according to their website, they started in 2006 in a small retail store in China and have now expanded to sell affordable watches worldwide via online sales. I've been impressed by the quality of the watch, though it wasn't obvious to me where else it is on sale in the UK and certainly not at the stated RRP of £200; I don't know what rules apply online in the UK to advertising "savings".=== THINGS I LIKE ABOUT THIS PRODUCT ===* Smart presentation box that means the watch would make a nice gift* Well-packaged and padded for transit, including sponge padding and film wrapping around the whole strap* The watch comes with a small polishing cloth to clean the face; it's the sort of cloth you'd use for polishing the lenses of your glasses* This is a weighty watch that feels solid and substantial* Thick glass covering the watch face* Clear face that's easy to read* Chronograph function=== NIGGLES ===* Has this watch ever been for sale in the UK at £200? Are customers really making a saving of £110? Claims about savings on sale prices are regulated in the UK, but I'm not sure that's being applied to websites. It feels as if a seller can put any random price they want on the website then claim it's being heavily discounted, giving the customer the impression they are making a saving which may be entirely illusory. The current selling price is what I would expect to pay for this watch, not the supposed RRP.* The instruction leaflet covers multiple different types of watches, so you have to work your way through quite a few pages to find the particular watch you've bought and work out how to use it.* What I didn't realise till I started looking at it was that "waterproof to 30M" doesn't mean anything of the sort: it's some sort of random designation used by watch manufacturers to mean a watch that can withstand splashes and brief immersion in water only but which is not suitable for swimming or bathing let alone immersion at 100 feet under the sea. Beware!* There's no little piece of plastic film covering the face of the watch, as I've seen with every other watch I've boughtFor sale at the time of writing this review at £89.99 (RRP £199.99).

PAGANI DESIGN
This is a nice enough watch, with a well rated and reliable, Seiko battery movement. In addition, it has a; stopwatch, chronograph and calendar/date display. The sum of its parts makes for a hefty timepiece. The mineral glass covers the black fascia - that times could be seen as being overly busy. Also, not as distinct as some sports watches from a premium branded watchmaker. The sub-dials are operated by push buttons on either side of the crown. The integral bracelet; while nice, is problematic to adjust to best-fit wrist size and may need a visit to good watch repair outlet. Otherwise, the clasp is relatively easy to operate and wear.Alas, the timepiece is only good for accidental splashes and pretty impractical for swimming or any form of bathing.Overall, a watch that looks good, and at present keeps good time, in addition, has some useful features. Lastly, a number of other reviewers refer to value for money. I cannot attest to its value, it’s very much dependant on the requirements of a would-be purchaser. I would have preferred fewer subdials and clearer fascia.

Heavy, chunky but only suited to smaller wrists (under 20cm)
Originally requested via Amazon's Vine Program but shipment was delayed and the request was later cancelled. However, it had since arrived unexpectedly. It is a very heavy watch and features an unusually large face that is made to look even larger by its very chunky crown. It offers standard chronograph functions as a stopwatch, process timer etc plus a date function, the window for which is usefully large and easy-to-read. However, the bracelet is of a size that will probably better suit teens than adult males as it is an uncomfortably tight fit on my 20-20.5cm diameter wrist. There has never been a fit issue with most brands including Seiko, Citizen, Rotary and Casio among others but only with several Chinese-made watches of which this is another and whose straps and bands are suitable for smaller Oriental wrists but not for Western ones. There are fluorescent strips on the hour and minute hands but they are hair thin, as are the hands themselves, and not very visible unless activated by a very bright light. Also unusual for a Chinese-made watch, the major hands are correctly aligned. This may be passed to a female family member who prefers chunky men's watches and has a smaller wrist. It could also fit a teen for whom it may be an excellent first 'adult' watch. It is 'waterproof' but only to a low 3ATM rating (30m equivalent). it will allow wear while washing hands but realistically not in the shower or while swimming and definitely not when diving or using scuba or similar equipment. The instructions are in the expected 'Chinglish' although anyone using a similar style of watch will probably not need them other than in the event of in-guarantee issues that demand a return. Third-party service is an unlikely situation and it is the distributors to whom it will need be returned. There is a thick polythene wrap around both sections of the bracelet that is surprising tough and difficult to remove; that was quite an annoying find and one that could be corrected at source as no other watch - several are owned - presented that problem to a similar degree. The design is smart and definitely 'dressy', and lacks the tendency to over-design and include additions to dial, hands etc that the Chinese often apply. It has a Seiko quartz mechanism that ensures excellent time-keeping but the quality of construction is adequate and no more as there is the usual lack of attention to some features; pulling the crown to change date is less easy than needs be and there is no obvious stop point for the 'first click' position. Other than the unnecessarily huge crown, the chronograph control buttons are unusually large and protruding such that they seem likely to catch on the edge of a desk, long sleeves etc. They somewhat spoil the tidy dial that predominates the watch. The back of the watch is deeply engraved, far more than is found with most other brands and was found to irritate the skin - possibly the tightness of the bracelet may share some of the responsibility. A consequence is that grime tends to accumulate in the recessed areas, perhaps by micro-abrasion, within a couple of hours even after thorough cleaning of the watch-back and the wrist area where it rests. Employment is not in a coal mine or metal-working environment that may be an obvious cause. It is the only watch worn that causes this effect quite so quickly and repeatedly. As with most Chinese watches, and some other items too, it appears to be a bargain thanks to unrealistic discounts of up to 85% often offered. They are fictitious as their retailers who market the watches with invented European-sounding names never offer them at or close to the much higher price suggested. If it works well and suffers no ill-effects from normal wear, it will probably provide a few years of use but it will never become a valued family heirloom.
