Makes spreading salt easy and fast.
I bought this to help me spread salt/ice melt on my long driveway and walkway. Short of it is, that it works really well!PROS- It’s bigger than you expect and holds more than you anticipate.- Makes spreading easy, controlled and fast.- Different size openings to accommodate different types of material.- Sturdy and light.CONS- Can be a little difficult to twist open and close. If you’re looking for a good spreader to make your life easier than this is a great buy. Highly recommended.

Almost perfect. It is the best I have found for hand spreading almost anything
Almost perfect. It is the best I have found for hand spreading almost anything. My first spreader was difficult to open and my most recent one is easy. This spreader can be difficult to open and close depending on the size and strength of your hand. This spreader is larger than most and is more durable than all others I have seen. It won't open or break if you drop it.It can be heavy if you fill it completely, but it also holds a lot more than others. It is also the best for using ice melt on stairs.I like the spreader and while recovering from hand surgery I experimented with various ways to open and close it even with a tight lid. What I found to help with limited strength on a tight lid is place the spreader on a flat surface and grip it near the bottom. Instead of using the handle to open the top, I gripped the scoop end. I gripped the bottom with my left hand to open and right hand to close, this allows you to use your thumb strength on the flat side of the base.If you make a "C" with your hand it almost matches the shape of the base and allows the most hand contact.

Useful Spreader for Ice Melt Granules
This will hold around 5lbs of ice melt and spreads out the salt very evenly by shaking and twisting the container in my hand. If you have clumped salt, this won’t help you. There are three hole settings. The tiny holes should have worked for ice melt but it was not coming out quickly or easily. I would guess that grass seeds would be better suited for those holes. I went to the next size holes and it worked easily to spread the ice melt. The top twists off easily in order to be filled with ice melt and reattached without any issues.

only 1 issue
I have meaty med-large hands.I found it a pain to grip the top and twist it one after a few uses, things get a little gritty when pouring grass seeds and or fertilizer into it. But once the top is on right, it's not coming off when in use.Made well, holds enough and not too much.

Worth the cost
I was on the fence whether this would worth the cost. I've been using a hand shovel to spread salt on my sidewalks and it got the job done. The distribution is not even and sometimes you might spill a shovel full, but it's not terrible for a free solution. The worst part is carrying around a heavy container of salt.I decided to take the plunge and made the purchase since we're in the middle of a snow storm now and it is supposed to last a while with repeat snows. I used it the first time last night and am satisfied with my purchase. After having used it, I would buy it again and that is high praise from me.It is just the right size and maybe a little larger than I was expecting. It held enough salt while also not being too heavy, and rock salt is pretty heavy. I filled it nearly full, set it to the larger holes, shook it generously and it did my entire walkway and steps.Compared to using my hand shovel, it sort of feels like it's not putting down enough salt because it's a smaller, even distribution. But you can feel it getting lighter as you go. And I looked out later and my sidewalk was completely bare. I was previously putting it down much heavier so this should pay for itself eventually in using less product.I'm looking forward to Spring when I need to put down grass seed. Now I reach in the bag and throw down handfuls until the bag is empty. Then I realize my manual distribution was so bad I ran out early and need to buy a second bag to finish (and decent grass seed ain't cheap).I can't speak to whether it will hold up over time, but it's a pretty simply device, so I'm not too concerned. The container itself is pretty thick. The lid is also thick and secures itself with a half turn (and can be done while wearing gloves). The only issue could be the dial but that is pretty sturdy too.Overall, a good purchase and worth the money. It's not too often you can say that.

Spreader Easy to Use
Used this spreader for rock salt, fertilizer, insecticide, coffee grounds. The coffee grounds were to deter the fox from camping out in the back yard in the middle of the night. The other uses are more obvious. This device works well and is easy to use - has a variety of spreader openings and the lid comes off the body to make filling very easy. Highly recommend as a backup for other spreading devices.

Just OK
It is OK. Doesn't hold much salt.

Sturdy and distributed the ice melt pellets uninformally.
Well we had the warmest winter on record this year. However, we had a few snows. Previously we used paper cups and plastic deli containers to spread the ice melt pellets. It was lumpy and not anywhere near uniform. So when I was buying my pellets I spotted this dispenser. It was a bit pricey but looked well designed and received good reviews. There were less expensive variations, however, thier reviews indicated that thisr designs were flawed. So I poneyed up and bought this spreader. It worked great. You can dial the dispersal volume selector to increase or decrease flow. It uniformly disperses your ice melt with a shacking motion. Nice design for the money.
