Perfect for little explorers
We looked around at all the options and finally went with this kit for our 2 year old. I'm glad we did. The items included to get the bugs into the viewing chambers are well constructed and simple to use even for our little guy. Once you have a bug in the various viewing chambers you have magnifying lenses for up close views and clear sides for 360 deg viewing angles. The larger viewing chamber has a little partition that divides the space into input area and viewing area. It was fun to add new bugs to the input area and then move them to the viewing portion. The viewing portion is sealed up so the bugs won't fall out when your kid turns the whole thing upside down. The input area has a little flap to open and close in order to add new bugs to your collection. Everything is well vented and spacious enough for a day of fun bug catching. I would recommend this kit to any parent looking to add some adventure to your own backyard.

Good variety of "tools," and acceptable quality for the price...
This set gets four stars because it has the most complete/smartest collection of pieces among similar bug-hunting sets. The "big" yellow bug holder case is nice, because it has a divider, a magnifying glass, etc. It's also nice you get a second, smaller bug holder, also with a magnifier. The little clear "bubble" with scissor handles is actually the best way for very young kids to catch bugs - tweezers can sometimes harm or kill the bugs. The net is okay. The compass watch is just a novelty, not actually usable (the needle sticks badly). This stuff is not great quality; if your kid isn't careful, these will probably crack after being dropped a few times. That's why it doesn't get 5 stars. The price is right, at least.

Fun for young kids.
Ordered 2 of these for my grand daughters (5&3) for a family camping trip. I was not planning on getting everything plastic, but this set had all the pieces I was looking for. and they all are well made, except the compass, I actually threw it out, it was useless and huge. The girls caught so many bugs, and use the magnifying box to inspect them all. They played it with it all week, It was a good buy.

Works great for catching bugs but not very durable
My 3 year old loved using some of the items in this kit to catch bugs! I only gave it 3 stars because it seems to break pretty easily, but the price was very pretty cheap and he was excited about getting it and used it right away! I would like to find a more durable kit for him at the same price but would likely purchase this again seeing he enjoyed it so much and actually caught several bugs with it!

Great idea for summer camp or a day at the beach!!
Great bug catching kit for kids! Fun for adults too! Although the tools are more “toy” than “tools”, they get the job done well enough, and work great for amateur critter catchers!! I Highly recommend as a gift for a child 10 or under!! Will definitely get the RugRats off the phone/computer game for an afternoon or two!!

No guarantee what you will get.
My friend ordered this for my son's birthday. It was such a hit that a jealous sibling intentionally broke an item from it a few days later after constant outdoor play. I was so pleased with the kit and its quality that I asked my friend for purchase information. She shared with me the link from her Amazon order history and I ordered directly from that link. What arrived at my house is NOT the same. It is SIMILAR, but not the same. Instead of an actual packaged set in a pretty display box like the first set, this is a collection of dollar store junk toys in cellophane bags and a plain, beaten up white box. The items are like poor impersonations of the original toys- they are poorly made, obviously cheaper, and do not include all of the pieces shown in the picture. If this had arrived with my friend's order she would have been too ashamed to gift it. I have never been so disappointed in a purchase from Amazon. Buyer beware for this item, as it is a game of chance what will arrive.

Quality vs. Affordability strikes again!
Once again I am reminded that we get far less for our money than we used to. I purchased this "adventure" kit as a gift because so many mothers have reached that "if we get one more house toy for me to trip over I am taking it strait to goodwill" limit, and this seemed like a perfect outside toy alternative. In theory this is correct, however, it is simply another example of the quality of product we can expect to receive from something made in China. It is a cheaply made toy (expect it do break within a few months at best). I am so frustrated with spending hard earned money on constantly inflating products in which the quality is steadily dropping. Overall, the product itself is a great concept, it is creative and inspires imagination and active play outdoors in a time when far to many children vegetate in front of the television. Sadly, it is constructed of cheap materials and will not be around for long. I would not recommend this product to another buyer, but you probably will not find an alternative that is made any better, so good luck!

Everything you need to hunt and study those bugs
I might have jumped the gun a bit to get this for my 2 year old grandson. He was having so much fun this summer finding bugs so I thought this set might be just the thing for him. An adult needs to give a helping hand with this set for a 2 year old. Maybe 4 would be a better age if you want him to hunt on his own. It is very cute though and great for the inquisitive mind of a child.

This is pure garbage.

Parts of the bug set are excellent and parts are of absolutely no value especially the compass.
