All the info you could possibly want on plant based nutrition.
Immense amount of information and ideas on plant based eating for those wanting to add more plant foods to their diet or for those wanting to go totally plant based. The author does a great job of not making the reader feel guilty about consuming meat in moderation if that’s what someone wants to do. The author simply gives you the info and ideas to increase your plant intake in general and great nutritional info and planning ideas to help you. Very happy with this purchase

Love this book!
What do I love about it? It's a book that doesn't force vegetarianism down your throat like some other books I've seen. Sharon very gently encourages a more plant-based diet by identifying various "stages" that someone may be in and how they can shift their focus to a more heart-healthy plant based way of life. I'm a registered dietitian nutritionist always encouraging my clients to, as one of Sharon's chapters states, shift their focus from animals to plants. Personally I am not a vegetarian and likely never will be - I love an occasional steak or juicy burger (but "occasional" to me is a few times per year). I do consider myself a "flexitarian" or what you may call a "semi-vegetarian". The Plant-Powered Diet Spectrum on page 28 is one of my favorite ideas in the book. On one end of the spectrum is the plant-powered vegan and the other end is the plant-powered omnivore. This is a very well-referenced book that I encourage everyone to have on their bookshelf.

Decent book overall for the novice just getting into plant ...
Decent book overall for the novice just getting into plant based eating. However... A few issues I have with it are as follows: 1) low fat low fat low fat (didn't we already see this as disastrous in the 90's?) 2) use of plant based margarines and 3) demonizing saturated fat, even coconut oil. I eat a plant based omnivorous diet, focusing mainly on fresh veggies, fruit and beans, some grains, but I also cook with and use a generous amount of EVOO and coconut oil, which are both proven to have health benefits. Wishing the author would update her research a bit more to include these highly beneficial fats.

Informative read
I've been looking to change my diet for a long time now, and this book gives me the resources to do it. I do believe you have to be willing and ready for a life change like this, so it may not be for everyone. I appreciate how the author gives history about the foods she discusses and easy to read charts. I especially like how she provides information to not just vegans and vegetarians, but to omnivores, too. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is ready to change their life for the better. I have been slowly making changes over the last month according to the author's suggestions, and I've seen a huge improvement in how I feel.

Incredible book!
This is becoming my favorite book to give away. So far I've purchased 6 copies and all but one I've given to others. The other has a great writing style - it's comprehensive, interesting and easy to read. The tables and nutritional information alone are worth way more than the price. Ms Palmer gives excellent overviews of the different types of lifestyles (ie, omnivorous to true vegan) and suggestions along the way. She does not mince words with foods to avoid and gives objective reviews on all others. A great addition to my library and one that I will use over and over again!

Right up my alley.
I was looking for a helpful, encouraging, and informative book on how to incorporate and increase veggies and grains in my diet. I found it with Sharon Palmer's book. This is an intelligently written book with a hint of logical persuasion. I especially enjoyed the flexibility Ms Palmer presents with varying degrees of plant based eating. Being an omnivore, I didn't feel guilt-ridden about being a meat eater after reading this book. Also, the recipes at the end gave me the kick start on how to blend flavors and ingredients. I enjoyed this book and keep it in the kitchen for all occasions. Highly recommend it.
