Sent two of these to our deployed daughter in law. These don't have the "crayon" scratch off that gets all over everything. She loved the brightness of the pics. A great no brainer at the end of a stressful day.

This is an awesome hand-held coloring pad. It’s a travel-sized craft perfect for car and plane rides; the markers are super juicy and odorless – there’s more than enough ink to color the six pages; the designs are gender neutral mostly favoring animal scenes; the finished product is easy to remove from the pad thanks to the perforated top edge; each page is a firm piece of cardboard (no bleed-thru with standalone support); and the price is right.The pattern that are revealed by the ink, keeps young artists engaged even when filling in larger or repetitive areas. For instance, the swirling water surrounding the turtle on page 3 (see pic), isn’t just blue – or whatever color they choose – but wave-like or foaming, bubbly blue. The velvet is dimensional meaning its edges are higher than the coloring portion. That definition provides good color boundary control, plus adds a visual and tactile texture to the finished piece.The target age is just right, too, given that the smaller areas require good hand coordination and patient work. Your young artists can’t just scribble; they have to carefully color to the edges of the velvet otherwise the flocking will mix with the ink and discolor the field. Melissa & Doug have produced another quality craft. This pad is a great craft or gift purchase.

Nice little book, I just wish it had a few more pages for the price. It is not reusable, and it just seems like a short lived product for $5. My daughter did really enjoy it, and the packaging makes it very easy to take on trips in the car (or one trip in our case).The pages are thick, so no support is needed underneath to draw. The heavy cardboard back helps, too. The markers are locked in place by the plastic.Nice toy for the car, just expensive for what you get in my opinion. Still really enjoyed by my daughter.

The magic velvet tablets are a favorite with my four year old granddaughter. The markers are ok.

Love Melissa and Doug Magic Velvet Coloring Pads. The velvet does not come off on the markers the way it does on cheaper products. Everything I have ever bought from Melissa and Doug is top quality. Thank you! And thank you Amazon for carrying their products.That was my review on another purchase of these Melissa & Doug pads. I have bought these pads from Amazon and other sites many, many times (at least 20) over the last several years. I have never had any issues in the past, but on this purchase, 2 of the markers were very dried out and barely colored. In fact, by the end of the book, the orange and yellow were totally dry. Very disappointed. To me, it seems like they might have been old and have been on the shelf for a long time giving them a chance to dry out. I do hope it was a fluke, and won't happen again, but now I am hesitant to order any more.

Awesome for traveling. I get a new one every year for my kids when we go on trips.

Took this on a long road trip. I wish I could find more just like it. My son didn’t make a peep while he colored the whole book. He carried around with him at the Nashville Zoo and compared some of the animals to the book. It was very cute!

So pretty but be aware there are only 6 pages so it doesn't last long. Gave 4 stars because most of the time the price isn't worth it for 6 pages. But, if you can find it on sale, go for it. My daughter has already asked for more versions she's liked it so much.

Our kids love these at home or away. Not messy at all. Markers wash up good, even if on skin. The parts you colour in are actually patterned and the pattern comes out when you colour it.
