Royal 36 European Wood International Chess Set

Normally, I do not post reviews because I'm quite satisfied with my purchase. This is an exception. The other reviews on this product were all positive, rave reviews. No disrespect, but those people must have very low expectations.The chess pieces are fine, but very light which was expected, however, one of the kings had a bulging piece of wood sticking out on the bottom, under the felt. I had to take off the felt and sand down the bulge so that the piece would sit flat and not wobble.The board is a different story. The stain they used bleeds from space to space and the numbers and letters marking the spaces was burned into the wood so carelessly, some digits are not even complete. If you take out the trays from the inside, you will see scrap wood pieces of inconsistent thicknesses, making up the board frame that looks as though it was ripped and cut by a beaver. This chess set is virtually crap. I'm donating mine to my sons school. I know you get what you pay for, but with the available reviews, what they were, I expected a real value. Not in the least.

Not a bad set for the price but the pieces are incredibly light and cheap feeling.If they were weighted this would be a 5 star product, but not only are they not weighted at all, the felt stickers on the bottom aren't always even lined up properly.The board itself also feels rediculously light, as the felt covered inlay is just plastic. Overall the product "looks" very nice but is not nice to handle.

This chess set for the price is very decent. Although the letters and numbers that are carved into the board are a little sloppy, it can be unnoticed easily. The pieces are good quality and sized bigger than your generic chess board that comes with other board games. The only downside is the green felt of the pieces, they don't seem like they will last many years of continuous use, but they sure do look great and feel great on the chess pieces. Overall, this is one of the best beginner chess sets that I have used throughout my years of playing chess. I have been playing chess for almost eight years now, and would recommend this chess set for those who like the appeal of a wooden board, an easy carrying chess set, or just to have as decoration. I have had this for over two years now, and have yet to face any problems with the chess pieces, or the board itself.

I don't understand why people give negative reviews to this set. It is perfectly clear to me, and to anybody with common sense that reads before buying, that this chess set is made from wood, but the pieces are not weigted, and if you LOOK AT THE PRICE, you might realize that maybe the quality will not be the same as an expesier chess set. Now knowing all those facts, I must say that the wood finish is excellent, I am currently getting weighted pieces. Now, it should also be common sense that the felt material of an expesier set would have higher quality, but I don't have a problem with that, If I wanted more quality I would pay more..

My 15 year old son loves chess but his younger siblings ruined his last set. He asked for a new one and instead of going to a store and getting a boring one I found this one. My son loves it. He pulls it out every chance he gets. I love that he would rather play with this chess set than video games. We both love the pieces and the storage to keep them is wonderful to have. I would recommend this chess set. Very happy with it
