Good Detective-Lawyer TV series
Only complaint is that it only had one season. Great characters and Jimmy Stewart. Sheesh.

Anatomy of a Lawyer
In 1959 James Stewart made a movie called "Anatomy of a Murder". Almost 15 years later he was on TV playing a down-home country lawyer."Hawkins" was part of the rotating mystery movie franchise that was aired during the early 1970"s.This DVD has all 8 TV movie episodes.Quality is good.Guest stars include:Cameron Mitchell (The High Chaparral)Pernell Roberts (Bonanza)Paul Burke (Naked City)to name a few. This is fairly entertaining but was not a hit and only lasted one season. This could be because it rotated with a series called "Shaft" which had been a big hit on the big screen in 1971. But being TV the violence had to be toned down for the TV version of "Shaft".This also lasted only one season.I think the reason being was that people who tuned in each week for "Shaft" got a gentler murder mystery while those who tuned into "Hawkins" got a tough New York city detective. But years later a show very similar in vain to "Hawkins" called "Matlock" was a hit for Andy Griffith and ran for 8 seasons.

Disappointing
Granted this was 1973-74 but still.... Jimmy Stewart is Jimmy Stewart so you're going to get a good performance no matter what. But the writers tried to dumb him down as a West Virginia lawyer; and every time I heard him use the word ain't, I cringed. I worked in law offices for years and never heard ain't from any educated lawyer (excuse the redundancy). There were some other examples but "ain't" was the most prolific throughout the series. The plot lines were nothing extraordinary, and I could figure out the real killer before it was revealed in the final scene in the courtroom. And Mr. Stewart's courtroom performance orations were so far afield from reality that it was more like he was giving lectures on law than questioning witnesses. Not the best writing or plotting but okay to watch once. Disappointed that Mr. Stewart accepted such scripts - but it was the early 70s and the TV crime genre was in its infancy. Perry Mason and Matlock had their own courtroom antics but were much more believable in their execution. Unless you just want to watch Jimmy Stewart, I would pass this series by for something more worthy. Perhaps that why the series only lasted for eight episodes.

Jimmy Stewart fans will enjoy
Clearly not his best work, but if you are a fan, you will absolutely enjoy seeing him in this role.

Spannende Anwaltserie
Endlich habe ich diese Dvd gefunden.Suche schon seit Jahren danach.
