This book helped me!
When the economy tanked in 2008, all of a sudden in July 2008 I was faced with the fact that I could not pay my debt. I ended up at Consumer Credit Counseling and learned I should pay my mortgage before everything else. I had so much debt I couldn't even qualify for their program. As time went on I learned to steel myself against and ignore the mail and phone calls from bill collectors. I settled some from time to time but had a mountain of it to deal with. I sometimes wished I had the money to take advantage of some really good settlements but I didn't!Then in 2012 I got sued a couple of times. That was a whole new adventure. I had to get on top of this subject and I got this book and one other one. In 5 months I was able to settle my remaining $64,000 in debt for $16,000.Caveat emptor, you can read a lot of good stuff on debt boards and things, but you need a book by a pro like this one to guide you through this world. If you want to learn more, learn to read the lawsuits posted on your county website. The plethora of lawsuits filed by JDB's and CA's are dismaying, but take heart in that you can also find actual defenses by real lawyers used against them too.

I would recommend this book to anyone having to deal with this subject
This is a very well written book and belief Ms. Ferman has done a great job of addressing all the key elements that need to be known about settling your debts yourself. This is a delicate subject as there is usually much emotion associated with it. I didn't find anything lacking in the information and was not left with unanswered questions. I would recommend this book to anyone that is having to deal with this subject.

Great book to read
Great book to read, however the website no longer work and when you try to type it into google there are sites that are wanting to help you by settling your debts for you... I'm not sure what happened to the website but if you are reading this book from your cell phone you can screen shot all the templates to use on your own. I am going to look for a more up to date book to read to learn how to settle my own debts.

I noticed a lot of cat fighting between Sandee Ferman ...
I noticed a lot of cat fighting between Sandee Ferman and Mandy Akridge in this and other sites. I am just very skeptical of the 5 star reviews of these 2 authors, with due respect to both of them. Some reviewers claim to have settled large amounts for example, $35,000 for 20%. Why will the creditor agree? As a commercial lender, we will immediately file a lawsuit against the delinquent debtor and get a judgment against them for the full amount plus attorneys' fees. why will I settle for 20%. something is not quite right with these 5 star reviews. I'm just asking.
