Eugenia Lincoln and the Unexpected Package: Tales from Mercy Watson's Deckawoo Drive, Volume Four

Delightful!
Once again, Kate DiCamillo delights with her insights into a mostly unlikable character. Anyone who has read Mercy Watson remembers Eugenia and her sourness as well as her dislike of pretty much anything that doesn't fit into her neat, orderly world. But it's fun to read about a different side to Eugenia as she discovers that sometimes it's the unexpected things in life that bring the most joy. When an accordion is delivered to her house, Eugenia is seriously annoyed. All she wants to do it to get rid of the thing. The last thing she expects is for someone to show up offering to teach her how to play it. But after several efforts to get rid of the unwanted instrument, Eugenia discovers that maybe, just maybe, there is more to her than she ever imagined. With Van Dusen's fun illustrations to complement the story, DiCamillo humorously reminds readers that there is always hope, even for a rigid, cranky old lady.

Sweet, heartfelt book!
Our whole family loves Tales from Deckawoo Drive, and this is one of our favorites. Eugenia Lincoln is NOT happy when a mysterious package shows up on her doorstep, but in this endearing tale, she learns that sometimes the unexpected isn't all bad. This is a great family read aloud.

I rarely write reviews - this deserved it!
We own both the paperback version and the AUDIBLE version of this book. My son listens to it every evening to help get him to sleep. It has wonderful humor, and excellent vocabulary words for him to soak up.... like frivolity and terra firma. It has wonderful life lessons, and helps kids understand different types of people and perspectives. I cannot say enough good things about this book.

Love Eugenia Lincoln !
Perfect for a beginner reader. This was my 9yrs old boy’s first novel book. A portion of reading letters and word levels are perfect for 3rd grade. He loved fun graphics. Uplifting fun story for boys and girls.

All of the Kate DiCamillio books in the Mercy Watson Series are wonderful. I looped with my class from first grade to second grade. We have read all of her books related to the series this year. This book won't disappoint! All of DiCamillo books are of course a favorite of my kiddos, but this one was a huge hit. They begged for me to keep reading each day. We are hoping and waiting for the next one!

Great story line, difficult vocabulary
Eugenia’s character continues to be well developed and it is charming to see her obtain some joy. Many sophisticated words fill the story and I wonder if the book is meant only as a read aloud as frivolity, proprietor and auditory hallucinations seem a stretch for young readers. In all a humorous story building on the lovable characters of the Mercy Watson series.

DiCamillo Did it Again!
We have a whole set of Mercy Watson for our 6-year-old. Having read them over and over, it was time to get her a new set based on characters with which she is familiar. DiCamillo did not disappoint. Still lovely characters and fun stories! Love her books. Highly recommended!
