The NUC 8 VR NUC8I7HNK Gaming Mini PC from Intel is a compact, barebones system equipped with a 3.1 GHz Intel Core i7-8705G quad-core processor and AMD Radeon RX Vega M GL graphics. It has two DDR4 SO-DIMM slots, supporting up to 32GB of 2400MHz RAM, and two M.2 slots for storage drives. Unlike other NUC systems, this system's dedicated AMD Radeon RX Vega graphics is powerful enough to run VR applications and play graphically demanding games. Moreover, there are six video ports that you can use to connect displays. Other integrated features include 802.11ac Wi-Fi, two Gigabit Ethernet ports, Bluetooth 4.2, an SDXC card reader, and multiple USB ports. Included with this system is a VESA bracket, which you can use for alternate mounting solutions.

Great Little Computer, No Future Support
Amazing little machine that can do almost anything in a tiny package. Tons of ports, super fast and decent graphics capabilities. Only real downside is that both Intel and AMD are trying to pretend the combined chipset they created for this unit doesn't exist anymore. My unit was shipped with no working driver for the Radeon Vega video card, it was just relying on intel's integrated graphics capabilities in all their chips which are not great. Digging in I discovered that intel has discontinued the driver they use to provide (which was just from AMD with a logo change) and pushed everyone to getting drivers from AMD directly. Unfortunately AMD pulled support for this Vega series in their most recent driver update so just going to their site and getting the newest driver doesn't work either. I was able to find an older driver package that does still work and got everything up and running correctly and it works great. While I know the device is 2 year old technology, so not exactly cutting edge, I would not expect to have such difficulties getting basic functionality out of it for something so new. Its a great computer and I am 100% happy with its performance, but I cannot recommend anyone without sufficient technical skills go down this road. The discreate video card is what sets this mini-pc apart. If you just want integrated intel graphics there are dramatically cheaper options out there that will fit those needs. It is functioning great as a media-center pc playing music and movies to our living room tv while still serving as a basic gaming rig for the very few times we have time for that. Its too bad the odd partnership led to a quick demise.

A power house in small package.
Fastest most durable PC I ever owned. And it is mounted on the back of my monitor out of site. It plays every game I throw at it with ease. Love it.

Intel Driver HDMI Audio issues
I received the unit and ran its windows / intel / bios updates immediately. Installed the intel smart driver detector and it installed all the correct drivers for this unit. This model has issues with HDMI audio out to misc output sources, I had mine hooked up directly to a samsung tv and it failed to find it as a source. Albeit the issue is intermittent but I decided to return, as it is a known documented issue for 9mo as of this review and intel hasn't put out any support / driver fixes.

Very, very happy with this.
It's small, takes up less space than a gaming console. Plays many games at 2K resolution on high settings. 1080p on Ultra in many cases. Plays Total War: Warhammer 1 & 2 with no difficulty. Eats Tomb Raider and other simple games for breakfast. I highly recommend this if you are tired of cleaning your gaming case every few weeks. Bonus, no fans to purchase and install.
