Reliable , Fast, Basic router
I was a bit skeptical about linksys when I bought this router because of the problems with my previous router which was also from linksys. ( that one slowed down my connection from 20Mbps to less than 8 mbps even with the wired connection ) I wanted a basic router with WiFi for my home network. And this one just suits my needs. My personal laptop is still running on an old Wireless G connection, but needed a wireless N connection so that I can connect my official one on the faster network for VPN. The first thing I did was to verify that the router is not slowing down my network. I went to [...] and verified that the speed remain same with and without the router. Even with wireless I could get ~20Mbps download speed, which is quite good. Netflix and youtube was playing pretty good even in HD mode without any stutter at all. Setup was pretty straight forward since I am familiar with configuring routers like this. Since the wireless network was secured by default, and I didnt know the network password for that, I had to use a wired connection for the initial setup. Other than that everything was smooth and I was done with the setup in a few minutes. Pros: +Easy setup +Fast connection +Good signal strength to reach all corners of the house +Decent looks with a modern touch in design +Not so expensive as the other routers which claims to be "high end". You don't really need them unless you are a heavy network user. +Internal Antenna. Looks better. Cons: - No Gigabit ethernet - There should be some configurable power features which can turn off the network at night when no one is using it. Considering this is running 24x7, this can reduce the power consumption and life of the unit. I dont think this is a big deal. Should be doable with a firmware update. - No DD-wrt support. Not a big deal for most users - Don't see an option to enable Higher priority for an ethernet port. This would be a plus since you can connect your blue ray player of any other multimedia device to a fast port and make sure the movies from netflix and youtube are not stuttering.

Very Good "Starter" N Router - Easy setup, Okay gaming.
It is a great router. Thin and light compared to my old Linksys G Router. As far a Cisco/Linksys; wouldn't go anywhere else, reliable, nice, last forever. My previous Linksys G lasted 7 years (still works), even did pretty good with gaming. Now for the E1000, it is a good starter. It was easy to setup, however still don't know how to turn off the "guest feature", it has an open wireless connection to my internet Although they can't access my LAN, they still can use my bandwidth. So easy-of-us is okay as far as advanced settings. Once you get it hooked up and run the CD, you don't have to touch anything except the reset button every once and awhile (maybe). As far as gaming, it is pretty good. I would recommend you hard wire a gaming console though, or upgrade to the E3000. As I said it is a great starter router, or for families with laptop or wireless devices. But for heavy usage like constant downloading and gaming, get the E3000. If you download a fair amount of stuff and want to go the extra step for a little bit more money, I highly recommend the E2000. I personally would of got the E2000, but I'm going to college and for what my parents do this is perfect for a great price. But would never recommend anything outside of Cisco/Linksys. You will never be dissatisfied with their products. Some go for looks and functionality, I go with reliability and performance. Like I said their reliable so you probably will never have to access the control panel. I'll give this router a easy 7-8 year life span.

Great Wireless Router for the dough
Arrived fast. Reconditioned router was VERY cheap. Amazon had cheapest online. And I trust them more for Returns if I ever have problems. Installation was more difficult than it needed to be because the Instructions on the CD were incorrect. I called tech support, had a bad line (perhaps because I had to use my cell as my Vonage was down as I was in the middle of installation). The tech support woman said she would call back and didn't. After waiting 30 minutes I called again. The second woman was much better and the second line was fine. After rebooting the device and reinstalling from scratch, this time connected to my computer as well, something the instructions do not say to do, I was up and running in 15 minutes. So far I have had no problems in about a week. My needs at home are not that great though. I just wanted to have wireless for my iPhone 4, have the ability to plug in Vonage (which has been off and on just plugged straight into the cable modem) have the ability to plug in another computer, and maybe use a laptop wirelessly. In the future I want to add Apple TV and it would be nice if any guests could just instantly use my wireless as I do everywhere else.... This Router is hugely better looking, cheaper, easier to set up, modify and use than the last one I had at the office.

Great router!
This router is fantastic for anyone, especially for those new to wireless networking. Linksys has done everything for you. All you have to do is pop in the Cisco Connect disk after you've plugged in the router, and you're pretty much done. They give you an SSID, passwords, etc. You can change your SSID and whatever settings you need to change very easily and quickly using the Cisco software if you like. I loved the Guest network option for friends and family who need internet access on your wireless network without giving them the key to your main network. The parental controls option is also a fantastic feature for people such as myself who have children whose internet access you need to limit after school and/or on the weekends. The only issue I encountered was the signal going in and out upon initial hookup. This was quickly fixed by unplugging my cordless home phone. Although my phone is 6.0 DECT and shouldn't have been a problem, it was for some reason. After unplugging the phone and setting up the router, I plugged my phone back in and haven't had any issues of any kind. This setup was simple and unintimidating. No logging into the router and being so confused you want to either stay wired or end up leaving your system unsecured. I would most definitely suggest this router for newbies or anyone else who's found setting up a wireless network to be frustrating. Best router out there!

Trash it!!!!
I have been trying for the last week to set this spaceship looking piece of garbage up! Called customer service and nothing but a busy signal. Emailed all they did was send me to their site. I even Skyped them and they gave me the same answer and have not helped it. Did I mention it was someone in China that helped me. Their English was good but....I got frustrated typing over and over my problem and not talking to some one to walk me trough the steps because my router was not connecting. I have set up other people routers before and I am the go to person when their computer needs fixing or setting up and for the love of steak and potatoes I had no idea with this router was doing or what it was trying to do. PLEASE DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT! It seems like a hit and miss item. I would have giving this rating a shatter star that I'd just nuked. P.S. Just came back from buy a router from Office Max and it was simple to set up other than waiting for a week and no help.

Very Reliable
I had someone come over to help me set this up since I've never had a wireless connection before and it took only minutes to install. As far as cost, I had help from coworkers deciding what price range I should look for and this was very reasonable. It's been very reliable after having it several months and, as others have said, it is very futuristic looking - very "cool" as my son commented. I haven't had any problems in taking my laptop all over the house and outdoors...the connection is great!

Works perfectly, easy to install
I bought this router 6 months ago to replace a refurbished router that kept acting up. I have moved since I bought this, so I have had to install it in two different houses. At my old house, my set-up was cable modem-wireless router-Vonage-desktop computer. We lived in a 2,000 sq ft 2-story townhouse and never had a problem with a weak signal. At my new house, I no longer have a desktop, instead I have cable modem-wireless router-Vonage and it all works on two laptops and a wireless printer. Installation is fast and easy. Linksys customer support is very good. After one very bad electrical storm that blew out my network, the Linksys rep spent nearly an hour on the phone with me re-setting everything. She was very knowledgeable and helpful. I have never had a problem since. Plus, the router is quite attractive, kind of like a flying saucer.

Amazing router
I love the old school routers for 2 reasons: I dont use them for wifi (only Ethernet) A lot faster bootups / settings changes and better UI People saying the setup is too complicated, well you dont need that disc setup that comes with the router AT ALL. All you need to do is connect it to the internet, go to your default gateway in your browser and you can change anything. I have quite a few routers and the 2009-2010 cisco routers are by far the best ones. Way faster, way easier and much better UI. Recently i bought a 300$ router and returned it as it was a complete piece of trash. When I connected it to the internet, it had to connect to some servers, apply some weird settings, wanted to me make an account etc. (which I think is completely unnecessary, stupid and annoying), boot ups and settings changes took minutes to apply, just terrible. Plus there was no difference in the speed of the wired internet. So yea, this router for me at least is as good as things get.

*****Fantastic Router*******
More than Happy with this router..I was a bit afraid when I bought it, as there were some bad reviews but it is so much easier to configure and install than a netgear one. Very light, easy to install and configure, very quick..Signals are quite good in a small home or apartment. You loose signal strength if you are further than 25 or 28meters..I really like the fact that you can administer your router either with the cisco connect or on a browser. Also, the good availability to configure which devices can be added and the guest option + parental options.Overall, I recommend it.. For a soho, it will be better to get the E2000 or E3000 devices..

5 years later...
As a reasonably flexible home router this fits the bill perfectly. Brought in Sept 2011 and still going strong, obviously there are better and newer versions out there now, but if this is on your radar as an option then you could do worse for the price.
