Porsche 928: Essential Buyers Guide

The first book anyone looking for a 928 should buy
David Hemmings cuts right to the chase with all you need to know before buying a 928 that only a long time owner of many of these fine cars can tell you. He doesn't just tell you about the 928, he tells you about what it feels like to own and drive one, both the good and the bad, and what to be cautious of.Beyond the book prospective 928 buyers would be wise to get in touch with the local Porsche and 928 community, without them and the knowledge they have about where to locate service and parts ownership can be a trial.

Needs Updating
While the has some good general information it needs updating as it last printed in 2007. That's light years in auto time. It would also be helpful if he researched more information from mechanics about specific weak areas. Several years ago I read reviews about BMW's written by a repair/parts guy. It was quite enlightening about he parts he sold a lot of and what repairs he actually did.

How about we retitle this, "The Essential Buyer's Pamphlet"?
Occasionally, my home receives the occasional visit from the polite Jehovah's Witnesses group, and they pass out that little "You're all gonna die!" Watchtower pamphlet each time they (unceremoniously) drop by, ensuring that my doorway isn't about to collapse.Whenever I think of the word 'buyer's guide', I'm not visited with images of tiny pamphlets costing $15.99. It's beautiful, but I was expecting something a bit....oh, I don't know....larger? As it is right now, it's only been an hour or two since I unpacked this (not) massive volume, and it's soooo diminutive, I've already lost track of it eleven times.I guess next time, I'll ignore the word 'book' in the product description, and head straight to the dimensions, because that's the only indication that this 64-page 'book' is actually an overproduced airline "How to inflate your safety vest" brochure.

A very helpful book!
Anybody contemplating buying a 928 should buy this book. It is well organized, and the author gives much valuable information and helpful hints about what to look for. One suggestion he made, which resonated with me, is to buy an earlier model where you may have to deal with "electrical" issues, not "electronics" issues.A useful book!

Not what was expected for the price
The price for a paperback seemed reasonable but this is a "pooket" book and the type and pictures are small and the material is dated with a lot of typos throughout. A Larger versions with pictures your could see with a magnifier would be nice and worth the price but this was not.

Not much here for the prospective American 928 Buyer
Pass over this one and get the Illustrated Buyers Guide for Porsche. It has a nice chapter on the 928 and the specifications. This book is focused on the United Kingdom buyer and isn't comprehensive enough. The tips it offers basically apply to the purchase if any used car, not 928 specific.

Buy this book before you buy a Porsche 928
The title says it all. You owe it to yourself to read this book BEFORE buying any 928. It covers all the established maintenance and repair issues you will be faced with. It makes you very aware of the special merits of the 928 model that Porsche hoped would replace the 911.

Not very useful... very old hat
I had high hopes for book but they were quickly dashed and a closer inspection really compounded my view. Can you imagine the guy actually suggests that after all your thorough inspection you take the car to a local Porsche dealer for their inspection.. what on earth would you do with that , what car would come away with anything like a sensible report on a 40 - 50 yr old car with repairs quoted at Porsche dealership prices. What technician at the dealership has any experience with 928's? I can answer that for you now.... none. The level of detail is at best mediocre.

Very informative.
This book is pretty informative, giving you new insight into the 928 in general. There is possibly only one small nitch (this is why I'm giving it a 4 star rating and not 5),taking into consideration the age of these cars, by the books standard, you'll be luckyto find at least one suitable car in the whole of Europe, that you would not "walk away" from...said that, this is in essence a very good and informative book regarding the Porsche 928.Given me much insight!
