Great sword
Great light longsword made of really tough steel with good edge. Same pattern as the real 14th century deal but out of a tougher steel than they could have dreamed off. Surprisingly light and agile blade and being able to buy replacement blunt and sharp blades is great.

Good beginner sword
The CAS Hanwei “Tinker sword are some of the best for dollar spent. They made for use not for decoration. Tinker makes swords at 5/6 times the price. While not made by Tinker many of his features. One can change blades, pommels guards etc. If The Print Armory ever gets going again. Great sword for the beginner Gives you different looks well made too

Light, well balanced, quality sword...my new favorite!
My daughter bought this for me for Christmas and I couldn't be happier. The fit and finish are very nice, considering this is a "budget sword". Everything is tight and seems to be excellent quality. Even a light tap on the guard causes the sword to ring like a giant tuning fork. The edge is also very sharp, with no discernible secondary bevel.I purchased a Cold Steel Italian Longsword from Amazon several years ago, and I definitely prefer the Tinker. The two swords are very similar in length, weight, shape, and fit, but the shape of the Tinker's blade and the fuller make it my new favorite. The handle is pretty thin, and the guard and pommel are a bit too bland for my taste, so an eventual upgrade is in the future. All in all, I highly recommend this beautifully designed and executed sword!

Very nice sword!
I received the sword from another seller and it is a great sword. Its big(almost 4 feet tall)but the center of gravity is 3 3/4 inches from the guard, making it a very fast sword, feels light in the hand and with two hands it is like lightning. Sharp but not razor sharp, some have said it needs to be sharper but I think it's more than sharp enough. It is made of 5160 spring steel and well tempered so its springy but still stiff. It has a strong blade and the point is capable of piercing chainmail. It is in between a thrusting and slashing sword, so quite versatile. Over all, worth every penny at this price!!

Serious, real, dangerous sword.
I have one of these, bought elsewhere but it is the same piece, a Tinker Pearce/CAS Hanwei Longsword. It is a remarkable blade for the price, which can be significantly lower than this if you do some research (cough-kultofathenadotcom-cough). I got mine before the price increase and paid significantly less than two bills for it. Currently it can be had for around two and three quarters Benjamins. The blade comes "sharp" with a serious secondary bevel that, if you're a "sword buff" is pretty abominable. I put a proper "appleseed" edge on mine and polished the blade. It will slice a falling page of typing paper but doesn't "feel" sharp. Which is normal for a sword of this type when it has been properly edged and polished. Remember, a sword is meant to cleave as it cuts, it's not the same dynamic as a knife and it's not the same edge as a knife. Feel free to research sword sharpening and sword edge geometry. It has the Hanwei standard hex nut securing the pommel. This is not a liability but rather a plus. The sword is made so that you can swap out a blunt "practical" or training blade of nearly identical dimensions and characteristics for safer practice and sparring. (NOTICE I did NOT say "safe", I said "safer". You can still maim or kill with the blunt "practical" blade, you've been warned.) You need to snug that hex nut up pretty tight to keep everything feeling solid. You can put a little locktite on the threads if you want to have everything more permanent but then you have to use heat to dismount the blade from the pommel/grip/guard. I'm good with just torquing the nut down and checking it once in a while but the locktite option is there if anyone is interested. Being able to completely disassemble this sword for cleaning is a big plus, especially if you've gone and drenched it in dragon blood after getting gushed on by the dragon you just slew. This is a serious, big, combat blade. You can hurt yourself or others VERY BADLY if you go swinging this around and don't know what you're doing. Even with the factory edge. I have a personal policy of not unsheathing (or removing it from its wall mount) when pets and kids are in the vicinity. I'm serious as a heart attack, a kid or a pet could run themselves onto this blade several inches without any effort in a moment of distraction. Swords are NOT toys and this is a REAL sword. I'm very careful and even so I've poked holes in things I didn't mean to while handling this blade. It's a VERY sharp and pointy piece of steel. The blade is very flexible without being at all "whippy". While cutting water bottles and tatami mats I do not feel any "whip" or unwanted flex in the blade at all. It has a nice distal taper that is conducive to the stiffness needed for powerful thrusting while still maintaining excellent balance and a very nice cutting capability with it's linear variable geometry edge. The center of balance is very close to the guard and the blade is EXTREMELY fast and agile. The center of percussion is well out along the distal edge and it hits like a freight train when you connect with the "sweet spot". Even with the blunt blade ...The ricasso is unsharpened and flat edged for about 6 (+/-) inches forward of the hilt. There is a reason for this, two actually. That is also the "forte" or "strong" of the blade and if you take a hit edge-on from another blade that's where you want to absorb the contact if possible. It's sturdy enough that you can take a full force blow on the flat of the ricasso/forte with no fear of shearing or breakage at all. It's also unsharpened for the purpose of choking up on the sword for greater control and accuracy in a thrust. Like when you find a chink in a goblin's armor or a loose scale on a dragon that you can slide the blade under with extreme precision and vanquish your foe. I've heard the ignorant say "cheap sword isn't even sharpened all the way.", so now you have no excuse to be ignorant and say such a thing ...The tang is correctly profiled, tapered, shouldered (rounded shoulders on the tang keep the blade from cracking there, where the heat treatment changes) and tempered. The blade is correctly hardened to around 50-53 Hrc while the tang is drawn back to the low 30's. This is the proper temper and hardening treatment, you want the blade hard enough to avoid damage on the evil one's armor and the tang soft enough to take up the vibration of a strike without cracking or breaking. It's very embarrassing to have the blade of your sword fall off the grip in the middle of a serious disagreement with your foes. The blade is composed of 5160 high carbon spring steel. This is excellent steel for a sword blade as it sharpens up well and holds an edge for a very long time. The blade appears to be hand forged, not machined. I say "appears to be" because I do no know for a fact that it is hand forged but looking down the blade lengthwise you can see just enough irregularity to indicate hand forging rather than precision material removal machining. The blade has a fuller running approximately one third the length from the hilt to the point, starting at the hilt of course. The blade comes with a brushed satin finish, with the brush marks parallel to the axis of the blade. Personally I don't like that so I polished them out, however- If you do a lot of hacking and slashing on resilient targets like chain mail then the brushed finish will help conceal the scratches you're most definitely going to inflict on your steel in doing so. It's a matter of personal preference to polish or not polish the blade and the fact that the blade is not mirror polished is not a reflection on it's quality (pun-intentional).It's a very good sword out of the box that can be made into a truly great sword with a little work and TLC, which is why I chose this particular sword. With the proper edge and polish this is a very serviceable sword that is equally at home slicing up bottles and mats or decapitating dragons and zombies (a little humor there, I haven't found any dragons or zombies in my neighborhood, yet. Woe unto them when I find them.) It is well suited to WMA, SCA, and perfect for both actual use and display applications. It looks wicked, properly sharpened it IS wicked. It is an excellent choice if you're an edged weapons enthusiast who likes to tinker, customize, personalize and generally fiddle with your weapons to bring them to their maximum potential. Some of us are sick like that and enjoy hours spent with our favorite blades making them "be all they can be". Even if you already own a high-end sword or two, like the Valiants and Arms & Armor blades etc., this is a very good choice for daily carry and everyday use. If you mess up a strike using this blade you won't damage one of your more expensive works of sword art perfection. The picture here on Amazon doesn't really do it justice. It is a two handed longsword and that blade is a lot longer than it looks in the pictures because of the size of the grip; the length of the grip skews the proportions in the picture. I'm a big guy, with big hands and the grip is more than enough for both hands with plenty to spare. Even so I have no trouble handling this sword with just one hand. Either single or double handed, it's still very light and agile. One thing everyone who's held it comments on is that it doesn't weigh any where near what they expected it to. In the case of a sword like this, that's a good thing not a liability. It comes with a very nice, serviceable scabbard that I have had no issues with at all. Note that it does NOT come with any kind of scabbard hanger or belt so you have to get those separately. After a little work, a bit of customization, and a lot of honing and polishing I'm extremely pleased with my Tinker Hanwei Longsword. It's not the work of art that the high-end blades are, but then it doesn't cost nearly as much and as far as a serviceable, reliable, honest-to-goodness REAL sword goes this one is a real gem at it's price point. If you're a Western sword enthusiast this weapon should have a prominent place in your armory.
