Nice chromebook - large touchscreen is excellent
I took ages to decide which chromebook to buy as I was torn between good reviews of both ASUS and Acer products. I was very tempted to go for the ASUS C302CA, especially at the £399 discounted price, but the 12.5 inch screen wasn't big enough for what I wanted - I'd been using a Dell XPS15 laptop for many years and had got used to the larger screen, even though it was a bit of a heavyweight. But then I saw the latest Acer Spin 15 chromebook and the spec looked very promising; there weren't too many reviews to check, and most weren't that detailed, so I was a bit hesitant at first. But then the price was reduced by £70 in early December and that was the clincher!I've been using the chromebook for a few weeks now and I'm very impressed. It's on the heavy side for a chromebook (about 2kg) but still much lighter than my old Dell 15-inch laptop which weighs in at just over 3kg. The large size is fine for me, but may be offputting for those who are looking for a small and lightweight solution. But the large screen is really worth getting, in my view - I just can't get used to small screens and find them tiring to use, so the larger screen is a real productivity boon for me. It took a while for me to get used to the keyboard as the keys have far less travel than those on my old Dell laptop (which has an excellent keyboard), but I've got used to it now and find it fast and easy to use. The trackpad is fine, but I use the touchscreen for most inputs - I tend to just use the trackpad when my large fingers are too imprecise for some of the smaller on-screen widgets. The CPU is not as fast as that used in the ASUS C302CA, but it's plenty fast enough for what I need - complex screens load without delay and I've not noticed any lag even with several tabs open. Access to the Google Play store is very good and Android apps load quickly and work well. Tablet mode works very well too, although the sheer physical size makes it harder to manipulate than a lightweight tablet. The upward facing speakers are very good too, although they face away from you when using it in tablet mode. And this fanless chromebook is totally silent and runs very cool - unlike my old Dell laptop which has a noisy fan; the Dell is a great lap-warmer in the winter, though ;-)As with any chromebook, it takes a while to get used to doing things outside of the Windows system, but I quickly got used to the new way of doings things. I like MS Office but the Google equivalents work just fine for me, and I can now save cash by cancelling my Office 365 sub when it comes up for renewal next year. But you can still use Office 365 on chromebooks if you really want to - I haven't tried it yet, but it apparently runs very well on chromebooks. I think the thing that took the most getting used to was the way the trackpad works, as this is quite different to Windows - but it all makes sense when you see the functionality explained in the online help. The only slight downside that I've noticed is that the chromebook is a bit awkward to open - the lid is quite stiff, and needs two hands to open. But this stiffness is also a positive feature as the screen is very steady when you're prodding the touchscreen; I checked several chromebooks in-store and a lot of them wobbled around a lot when using the touchscreen.Overall, I think this is an excellent chromebook and I'm very pleased that I made the right decision at last.

POOR SCREEN BRIGHTNESS
Had to return due to very poor screen and terrible brightness - my 2013 acer touchscreen seems twice as bright and better colours !! - not worth £500

Great laptop to use as your main machine.
Really enjoy working in this laptop. For most of the time, I use this as a desktop machine (closed lid, but connected to an ultrawide desktop monitor), but when I need to use it in laptop, or even tablet mode, it is great. It's actually my main work machine, and I never feel the need to use any apps that would be windows/Linux based, although I can run Linux apps if I want. The screen is massive, and makes it being used as a tablet a bit hard unless you have a good seating position. The sound is good, keyboard is nice, and the battery is more than longlasting enough.I got this after having an ASUS C302 flip, which was also a great Chromebook, although with a smaller screen.I love this Chromebook and I would only ever give it up if another Chromebook comes on to the market that has better speed etc, and a bigger screen, which means I will keep it for a long time
