Excellent for Run Commuters!
I purchased this pack for a single purpose, running to and from work (5 miles each way). I have searched for packs and never found that magical Harry Potter bag that fits everything and is still light and small, but this is close. I can easily fit my computer (12.5" screen size max), change of clothes and one other item (lunch OR packable winter jacket) on the inner pack without expanding the top too high. There is a spot on the outside to shove more stuff like shoes, but I opt to leave work shoes and toiletries at the office to keep my pack as light as possible. The pack sits nice and high and doesn't rub the lower back and has minimal bounce. The clips are different than most packs I have, but that seems to be a UD thing which I don't yet know the purpose, but it doesn't seem to add or detract value to me. The pouches on the front are really nice since I have issues reaching water bottles on most small bags. Makes those hot summer days much easier. Some others have complained about the back not breathing well which I don't see as a big issue since it would add bulk to make it more breathable. For my requirements of a light and slim bag for run commuting that holds a laptop, I have yet to find a better pack.

Best purchase I made all year! No bouncing even with a laptop, lunch and clothes!
Worth every penny. Absolutely love this thing. It's so well designed, from the pocket placement to the adjustable straps to the reflective details that keep me safe commuting in the dark. I use it to run a few miles each way to my office a couple times a week, and have switched to using it for long runs rather than my original (smaller) hydration pack because the straps are more comfortable, and I can pack an extra layer and have snacks easily accessible on the front without feeling like I'm carrying a lot. It didn't come with a tube clip but I found a magnetic one on here for $11 that works great, I keep it in a zipper pocket when not in use.I remember thinking, "gee, is it really worth it to drop $95 on a running backpack? My other hydration pack was only $35 and it works [mostly] fine" and the answer is YES. It's just a superior piece of equipment. I can fit my 15" laptop and a (non bulky) change of clothes in here no problem, then slide ballet flats or Toms into the outer vertical pockets, which are stretchy enough to fit a nalgene or thermos but narrow enough to keep it from jostling. I'm 6ft tall so went with the med/large and it's perfect. I'm curvy and the straps fit fine. Don't need to lather my shoulders with Body Glide, everything stays put, no bouncing or chafing.I will probably also use this on day hikes. It's not nearly as spacious as a regular daypack, even if you fully expand the top, but if your layers are compact, it's enough for a jacket and lunch, and if you're climbing something tricky, it's nice knowing it's not going to slide around and throw you off balance. I'm also excited to use it skiing. Its slim profile means it'll fit fine behind me on a chairlift, and bringing my own food will allow me to save money and avoid crowds. All in all, I'm really impressed. For the reviewers complaining it's too small, I honestly don't think the laws of physics would allow a running backpack with much greater storage capacity to keep things from bouncing. It's enough, and they designed it so well I'm curious to see what Ultimate Direction has for a lighter summer hydration pack, camping gear, etc.

Love this bag!
Love this bag! It fits a ton of stuff and is really comfortable. I can put a pair of shoes in the outer mesh pockets, water bottle and cell phone up front, my 13 inch surface pro, and a change of clothes inside. I was going back and forth between the fkt and this one, decided to go with the fkt. But for my purposes of run commuting, there were some rigid objects that were too hard to get into the fkt bag, like a laptop or large notebook. So I purchased this bag, and I am so glad I did! I wish I could combine the two somehow because there are some features on the fkt that I miss while using this bag.For run commuting, I like that it has a rigid back panel. It makes it a lot more comfortable when carrying hard bulky things like a laptop. The seperate zipper pocket is nice for separating smaller items from the main compartment, like wallet and keys. The phone pocket is a little small. My Samsung s8 active just barely fits. The water bottle pocket works well with the 550ml bottle that came with the fkt bag. I wish that the little zip pockets in the front were more stretchy. I can't really put useful things in them. I can see how they would be good for gels and such if used for long runs. One of my straps was put in the wrong way through the plastic adjuster, so I have to take the bag off to tighten which is annoying. The end of the strap is too thick to just undo and fix. The otherside is fine, so I know this was a defect/mistake.

Great day pack for hiking and ok for a commuter pack
If you're conscientious about what you're carrying and are regularly on the move then this is a great alternative to a traditional backpack. It is form fitting and light but at the tradeoff with capacity. The main pocket stores a fair amount but nothing particularly deep or cube-like. But it is ideal for extra layers and food while out doing long day hikes. While opening is pretty wide wide, the outer expandable pocket works really well for quick access items. For comfort, I find the pack really well suited for runners and hikers. The load sits well but there is lack of ventilation for your back so it will accumulate sweat. As a commuter pack, its adequate but will limit you for capacity. I prefer a traditional backpack as I am less concerned about comfort during transit and more focused on versatility and organization. A good buy nonetheless as long as you don’t carry much.

Good pack
The pack has been very good. It has reasonable front pocket, but not as much access to things in front as I like, so I added some additional front pockets. Some reviews mentioned chafing in the low back, but I have not had any problems with that. I tend to like to carry a lot of warm clothing with me on long runs that I usually don't need. Most running packs are too small for that. The Fastpack 15 has been very good. It is light when empty but can expand to carry as much as I want. Overall, it is an excellent small pack for ultrarunning and day hiking.
