Corelle Square 16-Piece Dinnerware Set, Pure White, Service for 4

I have always envied my mother's willingness to put her 20+ year old Corelle dishes on the table. Granted, I thought the pattern was hideous, but there is something to be said for having a complete set of dishes that old which still look new. My old, expensive, heavy dish set was missing a few pieces, and quite scratched up. I like to set a trendy, modern table, so imagine my surprise when I considered---and bought---Corelle!The set is modern looking, but could look good on any table with different linens and flatware. The size and shape of the dishes are pleasing. They fit well in the dishwasher. They do not look cheap. They're guaranteed not to break or chip for 3 years. They are resistant to utensil marking. I don't get that "watching-a-potential-car-wreck" look on my face when my daughter clears the table with these light-weight, chip-resistant dishes. Perfect.Thank you, previous Amazon reviewers, for letting me know about the cheap coffee cups. As others have stated, the coffee cups are Chinese-made porcelain, and do not exactly match the set. That's fine with me, they can go straight to Goodwill, as I have coffee cups which I like, and I don't usually serve coffee with dinner. If you are looking for matching coffee cups, you may want to look elsewhere.I hope this review helps. I'm going to order a third set now!

When we moved I gave up a great set of white (heavier) dinnerware that I loved/bought at Williams Sonoma. When we got to our new home I wanted dishware that was still white (as food looks appealing on white) -- and durable but lighter (stoneware is too heavy). This Corell set is very modern (square plates) - light but strong. Food looks great served on it - and it fits in the dishwasher. Since we live in a desert environoment - water is a factor. You can fit alot of these dishes in the dishwasher - plus for storing, they do not take up much space. I love this set so much - I bought one for our grown up kid who just moved to a new apt. and they all love the set too. This is a great dinnerware set - the plates are nice looking on a table - yet strong and can take even being dropped. We love them.

First, a few comments on other reviews.(1) Yes, Corelle is breakable -- most everything in the world is. However, with normal use, the dishes should last quite a while. If you threw your plate or saucer against a hard surface, it would probably break or chip. Again, throwing dishes is not normal use.(2) Yes, things break in shipment. In fact, one of the square bowls was shattered when I received my box (Amazon did NOT do a good job with packaging -- I will agree with another reviewer on that). However, I e-mailed Corelle using their online form and they are shipping me a replacement bowl at no charge. It does not hurt to ask, but one does need to be patient. It's been two weeks and I just heard back from the company.(3) The coffee mugs are a slightly different color than the plates and bowls. Big deal... I, personally, ordered the set for the other items, and the coffee mugs probably will not be used often, as coffee is typically drank after a meal when the plates have been removed from the table.So far, I'm rather satisfied with this set of dinnerware. Like many others, I grew up with various versions of Corelle, and it's nice to see the company still offers quality dinnerware at a decent price.

I have searched high and low for quality dishes. I have had stoneware sets in the past and every time I would use the new set, I would chip a plate from the dishwasher or see a chip some where on the set. I got so sick of these types of dishes that my daughter suggested the Corelle dishes, as she had a set and LOVED them! I soon started researching these dishes and saw there were many patterns and styles to choose from. I decided that white goes with anything and you can always dress them up with colorful napkins, napkin rings and tablecloths. I received my dishes and just love them! They are so simple yet so elegant and the new square design looks so sleek. I would highly recommend these dishes and remember......white can be elegant yet casual too. One thing nice is if you break one piece, Corelle has been around forever. You can always get a replacement or add onto your set. Also, Amazon site gave the best price around...I have been around the town shopping! I purchased 3 sets for service for 12 and got the BEST price.

*2024 Update* - nearly 12 years later, still going strong. Love that they’re light weight, easy to clean, and still look new. Originally bought for our rental, liked them so much replaced our heavy Gibson dishes at home with this set as well.Very pleased w/ the cupboard footprint- we have shallower cabinets and this set works very well in with our limited space. I worried about purchasing these on-line given the perils of shipping a fragile product. Sure enough, out of the three boxes we received contained 1 shattered lunch plate. I immediately emailed the company's customer service dept (there were fliers w/contact info in each box) explaining the situation and within 48 hours received a response saying they would be happy to send me a replacement free of charge. Love the dishes and the service!
