AI-100BK - A Good Choice
UPDATE 08/14/15: Here's the deal. While the unit has a detection for the out-of-water condition, it's too late to save the water pump from an early demise. The water inlet from the water tank is separated from the ice maker tray it feeds by a few uphill inches. The water pump seems to be at its best when the water tank is at least one-half filled and the pump is being assisted by the water's pressure. If the water in the tank is allowed to get so low that the out-of-water indicator lights, the pump is working so hard to raise the water up to the ice maker tray that the pump will eventually fail. After replacing my second pump, all is well now. Grins! UPDATE 02/21/15 Okay, folks. As with any electro-mechanic device, you should expect failure of some part at some point. To expect an ice maker to operate perfectly for many years is unrealistic. Yes, I experienced a failure. Instead of setting my hair on fire and screaming at the manufacturer, I carefully diagnosed what the probem was. After several months of nearly 12 hours per day operation, my AI-100's water pump as one of the few moving parts began to fail to draw water up to the ice mold, and it finally gave out with a whimpering death. I then had two choices: 1) Scream at NewAir and just buy a new one; OR 2) Since the small internal mini pump had failed, order and install a replacement pump. The pump is plastic, tiny, and it has two ears that hold it to its bracket, and a idiot-proof two-wire contact that plugs into a circuit board's pin connector. Once again, I was VERY pleased with the response by NewAir and the customer support provided by representative Mireya. Fearing the worst, I called NewAir and asked if a water pump was available and if it is something I could replace by myself. Sure enough, the water pump is a small, inexpensive available replacement part which with a little courage is easily replaced. Only $14.95 + $5.00 shipping. Ordered from NewAir on a Thursday, arrived the followng Monday. Next chapter ... How do I do this? Let me tell you that it took only 30 minutes to position the ice maker on it's front face on the floor, remove a total of about 12 phillips screws (some are pretty teeny, so wear your magnifying glasses), remove and replace the very small pump motor, and then reassemble and allow the unit to settle before ice making resumed! I am making photos for my sister when she will have to execute a pump replacement. So I will be updating this thread to post step-by-step instructions and photos. Don't sweat a pump failure. Order one and go forth to save on cost! UPDATE 10/28/14: After two months using the ice maker every day, I have come to the conclusion that distilled water (not merely "filtered" drinking water) is the only way to go. While it isn't required, distilled water results in much less "clumping" of the cubes than ordinary tap water or bottled drinking water. I suppose it is the absence of the various gasses and materials dissolved in tap/bottled potable water that makes distilled water cubes clump much less. I turn the unit on in the morning and off at night. A perfect supply of ice is available all day, and there's usually just a nice amount left in the morning to begin the day. Some have complained that the ice melts too fast. That is a reflection of the fact that the ice maker only freezes the cubes down to a temperature merely necessary to form the ice. That is in contrast to the typical refrigerator ice maker which freezes cubes down to a solid zero Farenheit or below. Other than that minor inconvenience, this is a great unit! My Previous Post of 08/29/14: I am impressed. This product met a need for my townhouse. I had to constantly run up and down stairs to refresh the ice in my iced tea (ahem, . . . and my scotch after 5:00 p.m.) until I took a chance and ordered this Newair unit. I was skeptical after having been burned by so many inferior products from China which exhibit terrible product design, engineering, or performance. Such is NOT the case with this ice maker. The ice maker shines in the three F's (Form, Fit, and Function). Several things make a difference . . . Good insulation, quiet operation, reliable ice production, rubber feet, strain relief on the power cord, high quality plastics used in construction and metal where necessary, safety and overflow features, and something hard to describe (a good "feel" to the manufactured parts). Simple operation with only minimal cleaning maintenance required. I use distilled water just as a preference, but it is not required. Since I have placed the unit in my guest bathroom, the only improvement I would suggest is a coin slot for my guests to help offset the cost . . . grins! . I saved the best for last. I telephoned Newair Customer Support to ask a minor question and guess what? I actually reached a REAL PERSON who was conversant with the product and its operation! Wow. Isn't that a first these days? Thanks to "Mireya" of customer support, my question was answered quickly and accurately. I am a happy customer.

This Thing Is AWESOME!
Our motorhome refrigerator did not come with an ice maker. After a summer of buying ice locally or trying to transport it with us, we purchased this little gem. I was leery of the claims but willing to give it a shot based on the reviews. After a year of use, I'm happy to recommend this unit. There are usually just the two of us but it makes more ice than we can use. I plug it in as soon as the coach is powered and by the time time I'm set up (30 minutes) I have ice for my beverage. (First batch usually ready in 9 - 12 minutes) In two hours, the hopper is full, even with me pulling ice out to refresh our beverages. If we have more than two people, I just empty the hopper into a container and stick it in the freezer and the ice maker starts to crank out more. It's pretty quiet, except when it dumps the ice into the hopper, but we keep it running all night and it hasn't bothered anyone yet. It stops making ice when the hopper is full. It is insulated but not refrigerated, so if you leave the ice in the hopper long enough, it might start to melt, but no worries... the melted ice cycles back into the reservoir and gets made into cubes again. Of all the accessories we've purchased for camping, this is by far the best investment we've made.

If you like ice, almost great product ... until it no longer works ;-)
I recently received this ice maker and overall am very impressed to date. Pros: * Easy to setup. * 1st batch of ice cubes made within 15 minutes of filling up with water and turning on. * Three ice cubes size options and design of cubes provides max. surface area are awesome * Quiet though not silent. Slight "whirring" sound. Cons: * No cooling control dial and default temp. is not quite at freezing (<32F/0C). Over time, ice cubes become "moist" and 3-4 cubes might start "sticking" together. * Do to design and non-freezing storage temp, no room or recommendation to use for anything other than making ice. * That ice cubes after production start "sweating" and "sticking together" is not a big deal. Those cubes that stick together can easily be broken apart and if size of cubes is set to small or medium they fill the glass easily. * The price is a bit high yet, if you love easy access to ice like I do, well worth it :-) Unknown Yet: * As I'm leaving this on 24/7, time will tell how much my electric bill will go up. P.S. If anyone can help me figure this out, Thanks and "Cool"!! UPDATE: Changed from 4 stars to 1 star after 16 mo of use. The freezer no longer works. My above review only applies as long as the ice maker works. Now that it's died and the warranty is only for one year, I'm now SOL. For the price, I'd suggest taking out an extended warranty or expect it to only last about a year (other reviewers claimed it died after a couple uses to 4-6 mo so I'm averaging my estimate of the life span. And even if the ice maker last 1 year+, it's not worth the money, IMHO.

So far so good. I typically run it one day a week, and throw the ice into freezer bags, as we’re a small family. When I do need a lot of ice, it’s done well so far running over multiple days. When I’m not using it, I use the scoop to prop open the lid as we already had to deal with a mould issue. Keep it going or ventilated and you should be fine. BUT takes a lot longer to make ice than advertised. Putting fridge-cold water in to start helps.

It came so well packaged. When we opened it , it had a scratch on the red top. We were very disappointed as it’s such a nice looking machine. I called and spoke with a manager and they were very understanding and gave us a credit back towards it. The unit is for our coach and works just great. I had previously purchased a 26# ice maker at Canadian tire. When I saw this 50# I returned the small one. Very happy I did. I recommend this ice maker!

Larger than what I expected. This is my 3rd ice maker and also the best one I have had. My last 2 averaged a life of 4yrs due to high use. This model is much faster and produces more ice. I am completely thrilled

This thing is a little bigger and heavier but so fast at making ice. I previously had the small RCA/Danby unit which was priced very economically but this one... quiet and making 50LBS of ice a day.... and so fast.... 3 different ice sizes... OH YEAH. The price shortly afterwards dropped by $76 to $299 .... sometimes you just miss the breaks but again, works great. Well, after 13 months, the ice maker died. Non-repairable, luckily I had bought the Canopy Insurance (Asurion) that covers an additional 3 years after manufacturer's warranty expires. Canopy refunded me price of ice maker with taxes included in full. Now the price is about $475.00 and it is not a Prime product anymore and there are shipping costs... sheesh. UPDATE: This unit stopped working after 13 months. Warning light blinking for 20 seconds. Manual says internal sensor needs to be replaced. Luckily I had bought the extended insurance (extra 3 years coverage) and was informed where to take my unit to, to get fixed. Technicians deemed not fixable as there was a leak in the tank and in the compressor so it was unfixable. Insurance reimbursed me full price including taxes. When mechanical and electronics run in tandem, always wise to buy insurance.
